Pours a deep brown in colour with a tan head. The smokiness of the peated malts is matched by a smooth taste of toffee, caramel and dark fruits.

Old rating rerated 15.06.2014, 0,5l bottle @ home:
Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry roasted, dark malts, roasted grain, coffee, burnt caramel, puffed rice, rye bread, cocoa, hints of licorice. Taste is dry and harsh burnt, roasted grain, burnt coffee, hay, burnt caramel, ashes, cocoa, hints of minerals. Medium to longlasting bitterness, dry and watery mouthfeel. Fair enough, just so boring! I wonder where the smoke went though...

Keg at the Magpie, brown-tinged black with a fine tan head and smoke and caramel aromas, a bit too cold though so the smoke takes ages to come through. Rich and lightly creamy. Coffee, caramel and a faint hint of gravy. Salty smoky finish with burnt bitter and toasted cocoa notes.

Bottle from the Bottle Stop. Poured black with a fairly short lived dark brown then fading to thin grey tan head. Aroma is smoked malts, cake, smoke, coffee. Flavour is smokey, some caramel, coffee and light chocolate. The smoke mellows letting a bit more chocolate through. I like my smoke beers. Good stuff.

ClubGonzo (5226) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 23, 2014
Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a jet black body with a large creamy off-white head. Nice. Nose is creamy chocolate tones, licorice, leather and hints of caramel and grains. Taste is chocolate, ashes, licorice and hints of leather and caramel. Medium to thin body, medium to soft carbonation. A bit thin and not enough smoke to deliver what it sets out to do, but a fair enough beer in general.

Butelka 50cl. OCZY : piwo jest ciemno brązowe, prawie czarne o średniej wielkości pianie. Piana ma kolor beżowy. NOS : aromat orzechów, przypalonego tosta, lury ze śmietaną, inki, miodu kwiatowego i skórek od cytryny. USTA : mało gazowane o konsystencji mleka. Umiarkowanie słodkie, podobne do gorzkiego kakaa. Cierpkie jak lura. Gorzkie jak kawa z mlekiem. Piwo ma wytrwałą gorzkość o posmaku popielniczki , węgla i mokrego kamienia. ODCZUCIA : jest to "wodnisty" porter o mało złożonych nutach. Nie jest zły ale trochę prostolinijny. Nie powinienem zrzędzić bo to całkiem poprawny porter ale Thornbridge przyzwyczaił mnie do więcej fajerwerków. OCENA : smak : 6/10 pijalność : 6/10

elbernays (1140) - Dublin, IRELAND - MAY 9, 2014
500ml bottle at home. Pours black with foam off white head. Head dissipates to nothing. Chocolate, burnt malt, coffee aroma. Not much smoke going on. Creamy milk chocolate, pate, earth flavour. Some mild bitterness on finish. Low carbonation, light body. It’s good but not exactly what it says on the tin.
