Pours a deep brown in colour with a tan head. The smokiness of the peated malts is matched by a smooth taste of toffee, caramel and dark fruits.

Pours a fairly big thick frothy brownish head and has a dark brown appearance. Some good sticky lacing remains. Aromas of coffee, malts, hints of spices as well as vanilla. Flavours are sweet at first (caramel) and the smokey notes come through much more in the finish. Fairly smooth mouthfeel. Average retention.

Pours a real dark brown colour with light ruby highlights. The head is creamy, bubbly, mocha-coloured, long lasting and leaves nice fluffy-creamy lace. Coffee aromas at first over roasted malts. Then, some smokiness and dark fruits appear. The taste really shows the smoked wood with the roasted malts. Some decent leafy hops shows up in the aftertaste, creating a little dryness. The mouthfeel itself is quite smooth, medium bodied. Everything is well-balanced without anything too strong, sticking out.

50 cl bottle with the "Smoked Winter Porter" label. Deep black, thin mocca coloured head. Aromas of chocolate, toffee, coffee and raisins. Rich mouthfeel, medium, but very pleasant, carbonation. Smoked flavour indeed, tobacco, dark chocolate, raisns and plums. Really nice manufactured porter, my first experience with the Thornbrifdge Brewery.

Bottle from the LCBO. Dark reddish-brown with a nice creamy tan head. Aroma of cocoa, roasted nuts, bit of damp earth, mild smokiness. Flavour of a solid porter - dark toffee, espresso, bit of cocoa and hazelnut - with a subtle but pleasant smoky backnote. A touch wore smoke wouldn’t be unwelcome, but it’s still very good.

[Bottle (500ml)] Pours a very dark brown with a lasting average size frothy tan head. Minimal lacing. Aroma (7+) of toasted malt, lactic notes, nuts, light smoke, hints of coffee & chocolate and light hops. Flavour of toasted malt, lactic notes, light leafy hops, some coffee and nuts -- not much smoke if any in the flavour but it tastes good. Average to moderate bitter finish. Average bodied. Pretty good.

500 ml bottle from LCBO, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep brown-black with a prolific deep tan head. Aroma: Grape jelly and other fruitiness, light phenolic/peaty smoke, limited roasted malt character. Palate: Medium+ body, fairly smooth with a few prickly bubbles. Flav.: A bit more roasted malt and a bit less fruitiness, smoke remains restrained; dry with moderate bitterness and a mixture of restrained dark-roasted malt and smokiness.

Pretty good.
