Tasted at the 4th BBF @ De Molen. Black pour. Roasty aroma, chocolate, caramel and some vanilla and coffee. Flavor is slightly bitter, very full bodied for the low ABV. Lovely balance, great brew.

Cask conditioned handpump Craft Beer Co EC1 London 30/04/13. A black beer with an off-white bubbly head. An excellent smoked porter. Super smoke and lovely chocolatey roast. perfectly balanced and totally spot on for drinkability. Just my type of beer.

Draft at Euston Tap, London on 17 July 2013. Poured a very dark ruby, almost black with a thin off-white head. Aroma of coffee, burnt malt and a good hint of smokiness. Full mouth feel with flavours of bitter dark chocolate, more coffee and some cured meat notes. Rounded bitter palate mixed with some molasses.

I know this brewer as being excellent, especially in mid abv ales with refined yet expressive tastes. While I just had a poorer experience, this was another winner. Lovely soft smoke aroma, quite brown malty rather than tea or hard smoke like. Very finely balanced. Taste is even better, with balancing bitterness to challenge, or rather excite, your taste buds. Lasting too. Delicious! (50cl bottle from Saveur Bière)

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. A hazy dark brown-black beer that pours with a thin tan head. It has rich chocolate and smoked malt flavours with more roast on the creamy bitter finish. Excellent – Thornbridge back to their best!

Tampa, Fl - on cask at Mr. Dunderbak’s. Dark brown leading to black pour with a sticky mocha colored head. Aroma has some nice black earth accents, a hint of black coffee. Flavor has some roasted notes, a hint of smoked meat, some black dirt, chocolate and day old black coffee. Mouthfeel is nice and chalky like a porter should be. Excellent find!

Bottle at home. The colour is pitch black, and has a big light brown head. Smokey aroma with coffee, camp fire, ash, forest and some dark chocolate. The flavour is similar but with even more smoke and burned wood. Slick mouth feel, and has a light to medium bitterness. A fantastic smokey porter which is very balanced and with a game character.

Scopey (7444) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 19, 2012
Cask at the Grove Inn, Huddersfield. It pours pretty much black, with a thick beige head. The nose is smoke, smoked ham, coal and leather. The taste is roasted malt, smoke, milk chocolate, charcoal, Bavarian smoked ham, caramel and a hint of alcohol warmth, with a dry-roasted finish. Medium body and soft mouth-feel. Very flavoursome, smooth and well balanced.
