COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned;
Bracia is the Celtic name for a beverage brewed in Iron Age Europe with reference found on a Roman inscription at Haddon Hall,Derbyshire. Little is known about this except it was high in alcohol, brewed with cereals and, most probably, honey. Thornbridge’s Bracia has been infused with a generous amount of dark and bitter Chestnut Honey. This was sourced by Head Brewer Stefano Cossi from Beekeeper Onelia Pin in the Alpine foothills of North East Italy. Aromas are of chestnut, honey, cappuccino, white chocolate, dark fruits, vibrant fresh peel. The mouthfeel is velvety and rich, with notes of coffee, chocolate, liquorice and hazelnuts with warming alcohol, cocoa and a little peat in the finish. Malts: Maris Otter, Brown, Munich, Dark Crystal, Black, Chocolate, Peated and Roasted Barley. Hops: Target, Pioneer, Hallertau Northern Brewer and Sorachi Ace. Bracia can be cellared for up to one year, maybe longer. Its flavours will evolve so why not enjoy the experience of opening a bottle every once in a while.

A remarkable beer, a masterpiece honestly, complex in a way that little else can hope to be. From the sweet, light cocoa in the front, paired with some honey and nutty character, to the finish of light peat smoke and a bit of a meaty character, this beer is a lot of different things but never too hard to "get." Just spectacular.

Well, I had the horrible barrel aged version of this, which was way too sweet, and like sun-tan lotion, so I decided to let this age for about a year before trying it, so that it had time to mellow. Sweet mashy aroma, a little raw and under-attentuated. Lovely dark brown, persistent tight tan head. Was just a joy to pour and look at afterwards, the viscosity and tighness of the bubbles was beautiful. Full smooth palate, sweetish. Tons of toasted coconut, pleasant sweet caramelly malts. Covers the alcohol better than it covers the Sorachi Ace. Not quite the toasted coconut of a Maui Coconut Porter, alas, it’s still the sun-cream aspect I don’t like. As it warms it stays mellow, but doesn’t become too sweet or sticky. Do like the toastiness in the finish, and also a very nice dry bitterness. Alas it goes in waves, sometimes the sorachi ace is just horrific.
