4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Beeches of Walkley, Sheffield. Clear, dark chestnut brown. Bubbly, tan head settles to a persistent, sticky halo. Earthy, woody, massive dark chocolate. Treacle. Booze. Lots of the chestnut honey. Very rich. Lesser notes of nuts, and floral, slightly green hops. Taste is richly sweet, turning earthy, burnt bread crust bitter. Heady, warming, chewy, smooth palate. Very full, and slightly oily. Finishes long, roasty, earthy bitter. Lovely. Suits cask dispense better, but that doesn’t come round too often.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Cotteridge Wines. Pours dark brown, cream tan head dies quickly to ring and patches. Nose of honey, roast nuts, slight smoke, chocolate. Tastes sweet dark honey, vanilla, roast, ash, quite heavy bitter, cacao, nuts, some earthy bitterness too. Rich, full body, creamy slick feel, moderate carb, long nutty bittersweet honey finish. This beer is remarkable. Very complex, far more than my words above can do justice to, and unique, even among braggot-style ales.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance is very dark, almost black, brown tinged at the base. A foamy, fluffy, tan coloured head which settles down. Aroma- complex. Blackcurrant, raisin, nutty, vinous, port notes, cocoa hints, malty. Taste- also very complex. Chocolate, nutty, almonds, marzipan, dark cherry, an understated honey sweetness, vanilla hints, bitter, lingering finish, some booze but well hidden. Really excellent.
