COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned;
Bracia is the Celtic name for a beverage brewed in Iron Age Europe with reference found on a Roman inscription at Haddon Hall,Derbyshire. Little is known about this except it was high in alcohol, brewed with cereals and, most probably, honey. Thornbridge’s Bracia has been infused with a generous amount of dark and bitter Chestnut Honey. This was sourced by Head Brewer Stefano Cossi from Beekeeper Onelia Pin in the Alpine foothills of North East Italy. Aromas are of chestnut, honey, cappuccino, white chocolate, dark fruits, vibrant fresh peel. The mouthfeel is velvety and rich, with notes of coffee, chocolate, liquorice and hazelnuts with warming alcohol, cocoa and a little peat in the finish. Malts: Maris Otter, Brown, Munich, Dark Crystal, Black, Chocolate, Peated and Roasted Barley. Hops: Target, Pioneer, Hallertau Northern Brewer and Sorachi Ace. Bracia can be cellared for up to one year, maybe longer. Its flavours will evolve so why not enjoy the experience of opening a bottle every once in a while.

Bottle (50 cl) from Systembolaget. Black with medium beige head. Strange smoked bon fire aroma with notes of burnt rubber and sassafras. Full bodied, soft carbonation. Semi dry with medium bitterness. Just weird.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2013 My Bottom Line:
Pine and eucalyptus aromatics pervade this super rich strong ale, adding to a seamless mélange of molasses, peat smoke, figs, raisins, roasted malts and honey. Complex AND unique. Wow.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-Sizeable foam recedes to a slim veil atop the darkness.
-The aroma on this one is like no other strong ale I’ve ever had.
-Hop resins are quite loquacious in the second half.
-The mouthfeel is dense and sticky, but not as viscous as some underattenuated Cigar City brews (for example).
-That bitter chestnut honey must be something else!
-If you served an Imperial Stout in a eucalyptus-filled sauna, it might taste like this. Then again, maybe not...
-A touch of alcohol warms each sip.

Bottles.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Very special smell to this one, it had a strong smell of the chewing gum Jenka. The taste was a bit different with musty dark malts, chocolate and walnuts. Very special beer that I had a hard time rating.

Bottle. Pours heavy oily black with a big milk chocolate brown head. Nice full bodied brew, heavy taste of chcolate and salmiak. Peated, like a lightly whiskey barrel aged brew.

Bottle. Spicy aroma with notes of salmiak, chewing gum and smoke. Thick and smooth. Complex dark taste with heavy notes of chocolate. Also notes of smoke and salty licorice. Almost got too heavy after a while.

Doften är lite obestemmelig. Men smaken är riktig god. Tjock vätska. Tydelig choklad kaffe lakrits och tjära. Hyfsat lång eftersmak. God och kladdig. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Väldigt mörkt brun med beige skum. Doften domineras av frukttuggummi och tvål. Detta finns även i smaken men inte lika dominerande. Där hittar man även trä och en avslutande lätt bitterhet. Inte alls min typ av öl.

Masterful brew - classic Thornbridge: at once both defining and redefining a style. Rich and heady with the honey packing a punch. Not an imperial stout but a clear traditional ale. Not much else to say but this is one of the best english regular beers - file in the same category as VIntage Ale etc.

A bloody excellent UK beer! Pours black with a thick, medium tan head. Aroma is earth, hay, honey, cereal, some dark red fruit. Taste is where it really shines. Opens a bit flat but then picks up. Chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, prunes. Only a touch of bitterness, but more from the bitter honey (?) than from the hops. It's very, very balanced in its character. Finish is super long, with a hint of coffee lingering forever. Incredibly full and rich, yet not overly imposing. Despite its dark character it is very refreshing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
