Bracia is the Celtic name for a beverage brewed in Iron Age Europe with reference found on a Roman inscription at Haddon Hall,Derbyshire. Little is known about this except it was high in alcohol, brewed with cereals and, most probably, honey. Thornbridge’s Bracia has been infused with a generous amount of dark and bitter Chestnut Honey. This was sourced by Head Brewer Stefano Cossi from Beekeeper Onelia Pin in the Alpine foothills of North East Italy. Aromas are of chestnut, honey, cappuccino, white chocolate, dark fruits, vibrant fresh peel. The mouthfeel is velvety and rich, with notes of coffee, chocolate, liquorice and hazelnuts with warming alcohol, cocoa and a little peat in the finish. Malts: Maris Otter, Brown, Munich, Dark Crystal, Black, Chocolate, Peated and Roasted Barley. Hops: Target, Pioneer, Hallertau Northern Brewer and Sorachi Ace. Bracia can be cellared for up to one year, maybe longer. Its flavours will evolve so why not enjoy the experience of opening a bottle every once in a while.

Bottle at mane liquor thornbridge tasting night. Pours a dark brown/black with a frothy tanned head. Nose is quite interesting. Nutmeg and bitter chocolate with dark roasty malts. Taste is much more of the same. Heaps of dark chocolate malts coming through even a touch of coconut towards the end of the palate. Fucking interesting beer Im finding it hard to describe. Would definitely recommend trying for pure complexity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle. Bottled Winter 2010. Black with a tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, perfume, flowers, hazelnuts and honey. The flavor is equally complex. I get a lot of perfume and cocoa notes, but they are complimented by the hazelnuts, sweet honey, black licorice and alcohol. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

A black beer with a beautiful, creamy, medium and brown head. The nose is enjoyable and balanced, roastiness, liquirice, strong salt liquirice, also some dark fruits and even port wine, alcohol can be sensed but not smelled. Taste is intensive, lots of salt liquirice, roastiness, dark fruits, warming alcohol, hint of coffee. Lots of sweetness, but it is balanced with bitterness and also other very intensive flavours. Strong bitterness dries the end and the aftertaste is roasted, slightly herbal and very long. Full bodied, low carbonation, very smooth to drink, but slightly sticky in the lips. The great beer, very intensive and complex.

Aroma is delightful and roasty. Great malts, toffee, chestnuts, honey, and chocolate. Pours black with a small short lived brown head. Taste is wonderful with toffee, chocolate, ginger snaps, licorice, roast malt and amazing caramel. The beer feels full and rich without showing its booze. Wonderful treat.

Dark brown, almost black with edges of ruby. Frothy mocha coloured head, medium lasting. Big aromas - port, oak, cherries, cassis, honey, hazelnut, cereal, coffee and milk chocolate. Really lovely. Intense flavours and rich, lush mouthfeel, getting resiny dark chocolate, nuts, coffee. Carbonation is soft, buts its there. Huge body on this, so rich. Finish is intensely complex, chocolate and coffee, liquorice, some piney bitterness and a nice dose of warming alcohol. This is truly lovely.

Sample at Freakin’ Frog in Las Vegas. The beer is a brownish-black color with a medium tan head that recedes gradually. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of toffee, malt and fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of earthy malt, dark fruit, chocolate and a bit of alcohol. The finish is sweet with a chocolate malt aftertaste. Good beer all around.

Pours a black color with a slight burnt coffee aroma. Taste is dry and butter. Slight fruityness at the very beginning that disappears quickly. Pretty good beer!
