3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at ACBF. Black, little bit of brown head. Liquorice and dark plumminess, touch of cinnamon and the tiniest bit of acetone. Flavour is molasses, espresso, cocoa, mixed spices (star anise?). Light mouthfeel, which is a little disappointing, but very drinkable.

05/03/2011 - 50cl bottle @ Alvinne Craft Beer Festival (2011-90)
Black beer with a dark brown small head, unstable and non adhesive. Aroma: spices, alcohol, mocha, but mainly very strange spices and is it the honey? Taste: caramel, sweet dark sugar, mocha, spices, alcohol. Aftertaste: some carbon sour, mocha turning to coffee.

Dark brown beer. Somewhat strange smell and taste but hard to recognize, combined with some nuts. Very different beer but very good.

UPDATED: SEP 4, 2011 Black with a darker brown head. Smell is sweet spiced cappuccino. A bit weird but nice. Taste about the same, something very familiar, but can’t place it. Good one. Special and a bit weird, but good.

1.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 5/20
I either have a bad batch of bottles or everyone has gone bonkers for liking this beer. For the record I am drinking batch bottled Winter 2010.
It pours out beautifully, real dark ruby with dense creamy tan head. The 1st sign of disaster is the nose, there is some classic caramel, oats & coffee but its overpowered by this weird gluey varnish character. On tasting , the body is lovely & rounded, great conditioning, lovely rich nutty, chocolate & cocoa. There is plenty of sweetness, but this is tempered nicely, but then the absolute disaster kicks in on the finish. There is a really vile chemical varnish flavour going on where the honey has obvioulsy completely clashed, it says in the commercial description there’s some peat on the finish, god knows where this peat would have come from, what would have been more honest is to say there is a vile glue flavour on the finish.
This beer cost nearly £10 in a bottle & I had to throw it away. Just because everything else these guys brew is brilliant does not excuse this mess.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by kmweaver at Woodshop 5.0 (2/20/10): Pours an oily black with a large froth of light brown head. Has an herbal licorice and dark chocolate nose with some raisin and coffee notes. Starts with good body and fine carbonation with some earthy dark chocolate flavor and anise spice before a warming funky earthy coffee finish. A very unique and fairly complex brew.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, lending it a bit of acidity combined with something funky. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt and soy sauce, and again somethin funky, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Thornbridge is maybe the best brewery from UK. This is a sort of imperial stout, strong and dark and impressive at taste.
