COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned;
Bracia is the Celtic name for a beverage brewed in Iron Age Europe with reference found on a Roman inscription at Haddon Hall,Derbyshire. Little is known about this except it was high in alcohol, brewed with cereals and, most probably, honey. Thornbridge’s Bracia has been infused with a generous amount of dark and bitter Chestnut Honey. This was sourced by Head Brewer Stefano Cossi from Beekeeper Onelia Pin in the Alpine foothills of North East Italy. Aromas are of chestnut, honey, cappuccino, white chocolate, dark fruits, vibrant fresh peel. The mouthfeel is velvety and rich, with notes of coffee, chocolate, liquorice and hazelnuts with warming alcohol, cocoa and a little peat in the finish. Malts: Maris Otter, Brown, Munich, Dark Crystal, Black, Chocolate, Peated and Roasted Barley. Hops: Target, Pioneer, Hallertau Northern Brewer and Sorachi Ace. Bracia can be cellared for up to one year, maybe longer. Its flavours will evolve so why not enjoy the experience of opening a bottle every once in a while.

Bottle. Pours with the look of an imperial stout, cascading beautifully from dark tan foam into a oil-black beer. Absent the description on the bottled, I’d have found the sweet, floral aroma a bit surprising. This drinks with a rich, rounded character of dark fruit -- plum and raisin -- accented with a unique twist that reminds me of pollen-rich spring, flowering and sweet. It’s an interesting mash up. Dark, dark colored pour. Looks black. Maybe the light isn’t strong enough to penetrate it! Big tan head. Head is super frothy. Plenty of lacing and rings of foam left over as I quaff this beauty. Big roasted malt aroma mixed with malt sugar and molasses. Some hints of alcohol and chocolate and raisins. Tastes of molasses and sugar. Slight tickle of carbonation and alcohol. Some dried fruit. Nice viscous mouthfeel. Some heat from carbonation and alcohol. A slight bitterness on the back like some old coffee. Very good beer.

Rating #4100. Black color with a very quickly falling head. Dark honey and nutty aroma. Some chocolate, roast and coffee notes. Strong, dark, slightly bitter honey flavor. Very roasty and fairly astringent. Hints of coffee and chocolate, but the honey takes center stage. Love it.

Bottle. Strange but good. Pours black with a medium brown head. Aroma of chestnuts/hazelnuts with hints of honey, chocolate and mustiness. Nutty chocolate flavor with some honey, licorice, fruit and grassy hops. Smooth, slightly sweet and peaty finish.

Not sure how to rate this. Very complex and rich aroma - herbal, woody. The flavor was herbal and woody as well with some peat. I sort of liked it and sort of thought it tasted a little medicinal. A for effort but this didn’t work for me. Serving: Bottle

500th rate. From a bottle. Pours black with a very nice looking metallic tan head. Nice big aroma of coffee, chocolate, dried fruit and bubblegum. Roast malt is more up front in the taste, smokey, chocolate, makes way to the fruitiness and a bubblegum finish. Thick as is gets, very heavy on the palate, quite sweet, doesn’t finish very well. The sorachi is quite prominent, a hop I’m not a fan of, lets it down a bit for me but otherwise a big and well balanced beer

Bottle in honour of Benh’s 500th rate. Peace be with you Ben. Shalom. Pours black with a wonderful bronze head. Bubblegum on the nose. Sweet alcohol and roasted malt flavours. Warming. Syrupy, oily mouthfeel. Good gear like...
