COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned;
Bracia is the Celtic name for a beverage brewed in Iron Age Europe with reference found on a Roman inscription at Haddon Hall,Derbyshire. Little is known about this except it was high in alcohol, brewed with cereals and, most probably, honey. Thornbridge’s Bracia has been infused with a generous amount of dark and bitter Chestnut Honey. This was sourced by Head Brewer Stefano Cossi from Beekeeper Onelia Pin in the Alpine foothills of North East Italy. Aromas are of chestnut, honey, cappuccino, white chocolate, dark fruits, vibrant fresh peel. The mouthfeel is velvety and rich, with notes of coffee, chocolate, liquorice and hazelnuts with warming alcohol, cocoa and a little peat in the finish. Malts: Maris Otter, Brown, Munich, Dark Crystal, Black, Chocolate, Peated and Roasted Barley. Hops: Target, Pioneer, Hallertau Northern Brewer and Sorachi Ace. Bracia can be cellared for up to one year, maybe longer. Its flavours will evolve so why not enjoy the experience of opening a bottle every once in a while.

Bottle - deep black with a very dark brown, large foamy head which stays around for a good while and gives some good lacing. Aroma of cocoa, roast malt, a little grass, some plum and a light sourness. Taste of cocoa, chocolate, roast malt, treacle and earth. Medium bitterness on the finish. Some hints of orange and vanilla. Thick body, medium carbonation. Very rich.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines. Pours dark brown, cream tan head dies quickly to ring and patches. Nose of honey, roast nuts, slight smoke, chocolate. Tastes sweet dark honey, vanilla, roast, ash, quite heavy bitter, cacao, nuts, some earthy bitterness too. Rich, full body, creamy slick feel, moderate carb, long nutty bittersweet honey finish. This beer is remarkable. Very complex, far more than my words above can do justice to, and unique, even among braggot-style ales.

Appearance is very dark, almost black, brown tinged at the base. A foamy, fluffy, tan coloured head which settles down. Aroma- complex. Blackcurrant, raisin, nutty, vinous, port notes, cocoa hints, malty. Taste- also very complex. Chocolate, nutty, almonds, marzipan, dark cherry, an understated honey sweetness, vanilla hints, bitter, lingering finish, some booze but well hidden. Really excellent.

Black with a brown fat looking head. nose: coffee, nuts, liqueur, alcohol, dark fruits, fat coffee milk, the alcohol gives a sharp sense. overall complex. taste: roasted malts, coffee, moccha, alcohol, dark fruits. MF/ creamy body, smooth, carbonation. some bitterness, alcohol gives a lot of punch, but is also warming. Ok, but a bit overdone (for me). lacks some balance (for me)

Bottle from Bottle Shop, Cheadle Hulme [281114]
Pitch black, thin tan head, some lacing
Aroma of rich dark malts, no roast, rich dark caramel, dark fruits, dark honey, slight soy, dab of toffee, complex
Taste of rich sweet dark malts, dark fruity nutty honey which has an unusual taste, rich dark fruits, some sweet dark chocolate, dab of molasses, hint of treacle, some alcohol soaked fruits, very complex
Palate - Soft carb, full body, sweet rich texture. Finish of rich dark syrup malts, dark fruits, that unusual dark nutty honey, soft warming alcohol
Overall - Complex, it’s the honey that makes the taste of the beer a bit mysterious and works very well. Very nice. I prefer the PX version which is just spectacular.

Wonderfully bittersweet with notes of honey, licorice, chocolate and caramel and a lightly smoky finish. Outstanding with dessert -- in our case homemade cheesecake. Yum
