COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Coinciding with the release of his bottled range in the UK market, Doug joined the Thornbridge team to recreate a version of his Red Ale, which has recently medalled at the World Beer Cup and North American Beer Awards. The 5.9% beer is crammed with speciality malts and with a twist on the popular American Red Style, it has been hopped instead with a massive amount of oil-rich English hops including Admiral, Bramling Cross, Phoenix, Pilgrim and First Gold. “We wanted to take a great US style of beer and put a bit of a British twist on it,” says Brewery Manager, Kelly Ryan. “We don’t want people to dismiss the fantastic breadth of flavour and aroma that UK hops can give to a beer... not every beer should be about US or NZ hops. It was also amazing to work with such a stalwart of the US microbrewing industry”. Colorado Red, as the beer has been named in tribute to Doug’s brewery, will be released on Monday August 2nd at a Meet the Brewer event in the Cask and Kitchen in Pimlico, London. The beer is described as having hints of subtle toffee malt, complimented by a heady mix of dried fruit, candied peel, hop resin, rosewater and a fantastic blend of herbal UK hop notes. The bitterness is well rounded and the beer finishes with hints of citrus and roasty malt characteristics. Thornbridge’s very own UK Brewer of the Year!

Cask handpull at CP&K, Pimlico. Strawberry fruity. Strawberry and a touch of diacetyl. Bit of biscuit. Maybe a bit rich on the mouth. No dryness, no big hop presence on the finish. Bit of tart strawberry on finish. Good and interesting and reminded me of the BrewDog Zephyr that tasted to me of strawberry shortcake. I expected more PNW hops on an American red ale interpretation.

Bottle. Copper/deep red with ligh brown, quite densed, medium head. Very good lacing. Good head retention. Aroma of malts - caramel, toffee along with resin, red fruits and some citrus. Sweet dusty flavour, earthy, definetely bready and some toffe flavours. Clean citrus hops taste, but not so intense. Medium bodied, semi-dry, medium carbonation, smooth texture, bitter and malty finish. Good ESB, well balanced, highly drinkable.

Bottle 0,50L. Hazy red/orange colour with big creamy, light brown head and excellent lacing. Very good aroma of pine and resin, as well as orange and caramel. Taste starts light sweet and fruity, but it turns to a bitter side fast, with nice bitter, hoppy and spicy finish. Full body, creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Excellent!

Bottle from the Thornbridge Christmas case. Reddish-brown pour with an off-white head. Lots of red fruit in the aroma with a splash of apricot and some sweet spice notes. Flavours of caramel, raspberry, strawberry and red apple. Crisp, fruit laden finish. Nice.

Bottle. An unclear, copper colored beer topped by a dense, finger-thick light beige head. Lightly meaty aroma with citruspeel hoppyness. Some pine cones and caramel. Some cheesy hop notes in the flavor, a good bitterness, and caramel in the back. Nuts and a bready touch. Medium body, soft carbonation. Semi-dry on the palate. Lasting piney and citruspeel-ish finish with a good bitterness. Quite decent this one, but sort of boring anyway. Drinks easily. 141231

Belle robe rouge, à peine trouble.Belle mousse fine, collante, blanche.
