COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Coinciding with the release of his bottled range in the UK market, Doug joined the Thornbridge team to recreate a version of his Red Ale, which has recently medalled at the World Beer Cup and North American Beer Awards. The 5.9% beer is crammed with speciality malts and with a twist on the popular American Red Style, it has been hopped instead with a massive amount of oil-rich English hops including Admiral, Bramling Cross, Phoenix, Pilgrim and First Gold. “We wanted to take a great US style of beer and put a bit of a British twist on it,” says Brewery Manager, Kelly Ryan. “We don’t want people to dismiss the fantastic breadth of flavour and aroma that UK hops can give to a beer... not every beer should be about US or NZ hops. It was also amazing to work with such a stalwart of the US microbrewing industry”. Colorado Red, as the beer has been named in tribute to Doug’s brewery, will be released on Monday August 2nd at a Meet the Brewer event in the Cask and Kitchen in Pimlico, London. The beer is described as having hints of subtle toffee malt, complimented by a heady mix of dried fruit, candied peel, hop resin, rosewater and a fantastic blend of herbal UK hop notes. The bitterness is well rounded and the beer finishes with hints of citrus and roasty malt characteristics. Thornbridge’s very own UK Brewer of the Year!

Very intense and complex aroma of resin, grass, citrus just like an IPA but with a really solid caramel core. It doesn’t have floral and fruity hints like the american ales, unlike them it’s more... peremptory. So beautiful red amber clean color with a big rocky white head. Highly bitter taste, as we expect from this style. Medium bodied, average carbonation, long lasting bitter finish. A very very good one!

Cask via handpump at CASK Pub & Kitchen on 2nd August 2010. Russet with yellow-tinged thin foam head. Hoppy aroma with a touch of aniseed spice in the nose. Sharply hoppy in main kick with a bitter aftertaste. A few berry fruits in background and a light textured, agreeable mouthfeel making the beer easy to drink despite its strength. A well crafted ale, a privilege to enjoy.

25 cl. draft @ Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Bright copper red with a big creamy off-white head. Nose is quite a bit of sweet grapefruit, touch syrupy sweetness, pine, oodles of hops, real USA style. Taste is quite a bit of hops, grapefruit, pine, light strawberry jam, touch syrupy malts, reasonable malt base, touch caramel malt feel, touch grass in the back. Quite clean, fine brew, Thornbridge continues being lovely.

Cask at the Euston Tap. Ruby-brown pour with a clingy, white head. Grapefruit citrus hops, some earth, bit of resin, honey and caramel. Medium in body with average carbonation. Resinous finish, sweet citrus, mild earth, yeah, really nice and slightly dank citrus and pine. Super solid brew.

All the character and depth you’d expect from a US amber with a hint of herb mingled in with the usual citrus kick and biscuity base. Top drawer!

Pours redish-brown with a lot of head. Pretty carbonated. Smell is very pleasant, citrusy. Yaste is mild, not aggressive. The hoppy aftertaste evolves slowly and with excellent notes of freshness. A very good beer!

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Brum. Nice colour and foam head. Flavour is initially quite subtle, but as you drain the glass, you realise how beautifully balanced it is. Great hop levels. Sublime malt blend. Really good.

Ruby red body, stable head, great looks. Hoppy aroma. Classic hops, but still very hoppy modern. Delicious so malty sweetness to balance. Very nice and very culinary: bet this would go great with food. Quite bitter (I think red meat or a roasted vegetables) and without a harsh ending. Delicious brew and very high class! (50cl bottle from Saveur Bière)
