Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned;
Bracia is the Celtic name for a beverage brewed in Iron Age Europe with reference found on a Roman inscription at Haddon Hall,Derbyshire. Little is known about this except it was high in alcohol, brewed with cereals and, most probably, honey. Thornbridge’s Bracia has been infused with a generous amount of dark and bitter Chestnut Honey. This was sourced by Head Brewer Stefano Cossi from Beekeeper Onelia Pin in the Alpine foothills of North East Italy. Aromas are of chestnut, honey, cappuccino, white chocolate, dark fruits, vibrant fresh peel. The mouthfeel is velvety and rich, with notes of coffee, chocolate, liquorice and hazelnuts with warming alcohol, cocoa and a little peat in the finish. Malts: Maris Otter, Brown, Munich, Dark Crystal, Black, Chocolate, Peated and Roasted Barley. Hops: Target, Pioneer, Hallertau Northern Brewer and Sorachi Ace. Bracia can be cellared for up to one year, maybe longer. Its flavours will evolve so why not enjoy the experience of opening a bottle every once in a while.

Pours opaque black with a good sized, creamy smooth brown head, loads of chunky sticky lacing. Very nice looking. Aroma is surprising. What’s this, Tutti frutti bubblegum? Uh.. Some vague yeast notes, and faint roasted notes, but mostly tutti frutti bubblegum. Odd. Flavour reveals a lot more however. Juicy fruity sweetness, solid roasted coffeebean bitterness, some honey sweetness, nutty caramel, powdery dark high cocoa chocolate, herbal notes and spices. As it warms, aroma shows more of the spicy and roasted notes in the flavour, but still dominated by the bubblegum. Body is thick and viscous, coats the mouth. Fittingly sparse carbonation, yet far from flat. Small tingly bubbles makes it drinkable. Odd, but definitely enjoyable. A complex sipper which seperates itself from the big dark ale crowd with some surprising twists.

Courtesy chzman. Black. Light brown head. Nose of roasted malt, honey, opium, necco wafers. Cool smell. Flavor adds dark chocolate, plenty of bittersweetness, earth, more honey. Roasty, bitter, woodsy finish. Medium/full body. Moderate carbonation. Unique brew. Basically a stout with a ton of honey. Very enjoyable.
