4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Brewed April 2011, Bottled December 2011 - A dark black, tan head, classic look - top marks. Aroma is coffee, licorice, chocolate, dark fruits - excellent. Taste is blackcurrants, coffee, liquorice, and an after burn of warming alcohol - again, excellent. Oily in the mouth, nice and thick - perfect! Not sure if this is my highest mark I’ve given, but it must be close.

4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
2011 Vintage – brewed April 2011 – bottled December 2011 – neat
Label – ok, similar to Bracia so they must have an ancient brew series going on but not terribly exiting
Appearance –very dark brown with a lovely creamy mocha head, beautiful
Smell – lots & lots of coffee here, sweet with lots of sweet chocolate, mocha, chocolate truffles
Taste – insanely awesome, like liquid ice-cream basically, oodles of chocolate truffles, mocha & mocha ice-cream, sweet chocolate, toffee, creamy, malty goodness, would love to try this again with some ice-cream in it, very light bitterness in the end, light bitter chocolate / espresso & even some hops but very little
Body – ridiculously creamy
Overall – don’t care what the ratings are saying here, this is simply incredibly, easily one of the best RIS I have ever had

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Almost black pour with ruby highlights. Small tan head that doesn’t stick around and leaves little, if any, lacing. Big malty aroma. Roast, chocolate, fruit notes. Some toffee. Big molasses flavor. Tastes almost like straight up treacle. Raisiny with some toffee, coffee notes. Very sweet, but not too cloying. Not bad. A definite sipper though.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330ml bottle. Darkest brown with average creamy firm lacing brown head - containing bubbles identical like digitally generated. Roasty dark malt aroma, a touch of leather, shoe polish, leek, onion, a hint of peppermint. Taste has prickling spicy notes like peppermint, soya sauce, Aspirin®, additionally liquorice, bitter notes like coffee and artichoke. Sticky, oily lasting finish.
Really a characterful Imperial Stout, though (and because of) not permanently flattering the gustative nerve.

Dark brown with fluffy brown-tinged head. Treacle, cofffe, demerara, roast barley, slight sourness on the nose. Rich, smooth mouthfeel with barley and soapy hops through first, followed by a dash of bitterness, some chocolate and tannins, sweet malt, slight astringent barley, long finish.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle in Euston Tap. Labelled ’Thornbridge Hall Russian Imperial Stout’. Colour is opaque black, tan brown head. Nose is dark fruit, prune, raisins, aged wood, alcohol, bit of fortified wine, touch of salty yeast extract. Taste is dark fruit, prune, raisin, then there’s an alcoholic bite like fortified wine, which lingers in the finish. Like port. Not much choc or coffee in this one. I find it a bit hard and there’s a Marmite like tang in there too.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared with friends. Deep brown color with a massive deep tan head. The nose is bitter chocolate, dark berries, and port wine. Vinous. Roasty notes. The taste follows the nose’s lead - milk chocolate, forest fruits and sherry. The mouthfeel is very silky, the beer’s thick and important, but not too hot or difficult. Overall, very nice.
