Commercial Description:
A golden summer ale made with a selection of American and Slovenian hops, Maris Otter Pale Ale and Crystal malts and infused with freshly picked Derbyshire Elderflowers. An initial aroma of elderflower and a clean and zesty flavor. Fresh and grassy hop characters and a light, refreshing bitter finish make this beer the ideal warm weather pint. The elderflower character lingers long after swallowing.

Cask (handpull) at Thornbridge Hall Garden Party, 2009. It’s elderflower and then moreso; so fresh in the aroma that it takes on an almost peppery edge, the flavour is anchored by an assured malt base though the flavour still itches. Sat in the splendid gardens of Thornbridge Hall with the sun on my back, Craven Silk proved itself to be a barnstorming summer beer.

A Mes rate: cask at the Fat Cat.
Bright light gold with a thin but lasting white head and lots of condition. Huge elderflower hand in hand with some very good hops and held up really well by some excellent earthy malt. Ian’s right, it’s almost gingery with the excessive elderflower. Typically drinkable for a Thornbridge beer. Good stuff.

Cask in the fat cat. Alround rating: Massive elderflower peppery character, dry and grasy, bitter floral pwepperyness. Quite different but its not really my deal.

Cask @ The Fat Cat, Sheffield.
Pours slightly hazy golden with a fine, staying, off-white film head. Aroma is sweet, some clear elderflowers and flowery hops. Medium, prickly carbonation, fine and light mouthfeel. Flavour is rather sweet, lots of elderflowers. Light flowery dry bitterness in the finish. Fresh, but just a bit too much elderflowers for me.

Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090716]

Cask Conditioned Gravity Dispense Merton BF. A golden coloured beer with a little ring of whitish bubbles. The aroma has lots of elderflower but also spicy pepperiness too. Spicy peppery and floral in the mouth. Clean, crisp and good.
