This smooth and rich Scotch ale has been matured for a year in Auchentoshan Scotch Whisky casks. It pours a deep mahogany with an off-white head. The aromas are a complex blend of subtle, perfumed notes of heather, hints of whisky, bonfire toffee, fresh coffee and milk chocolate. Our ’Double’ Scotch is a genuine expression of maltness, with the rich sweet malt marrying perfectly with gentle oak and whisky flavours.

Tap at Ginger Man. Dark brown with orange, fine head. Soft chocolate fudge nose, caramel, treacle, raisin and prune. Rich flavor of dried fruit and treacle, some smoke. Bitter, burnt caramel finish, umami. Excellent.

Bottle. Deep burgundy brown with a huge beige head. Sweet toffee, milky aroma. More depth as it warms up in the mouth with hints of whisky and vanilla oakiness plus with herbs balancing the sweet toffee. Interesting, even if on the sweet side.

Dark Mahogany ale with an invincible thick beige head. Aroma is all wood, malt and rich dark fruit. Taste is deep treacle sweetness followed by a lasting bitterness and a tingly alcohol warmth in the mouth. Lovely.

Barwa: ciemno rubinowa, z ładnymi czerwonymi refleksami pod światło, lekko zmętniona. Piana beżowa, drobno pęcherzykowa, obfita, utrzymująca się i ładnie oblepiająca szkło. Aromat: wyraźne na słodowość (karmel, toffi, czekolada, lekkie melanoidyny), następnie niewielka kwaskowość, subtelne akcenty wanilii oraz nuta alkoholowa. Smak: zdecydowanie pełny i słodowy (toffi, czekolada mleczna, lekka kawa), jednak umiarkowanie słodki. Następnie warstwa bardziej wytrawna i nieco goryczkowa z przyjemnie alkoholową i rozgrzewającą końcówką.

Bottle from Beergium.com. Aroma has some sweet tone with raisins, dates and some berries, plus a really subtle note of whiskey. Pours dark amber colour with a rich beige head with some yeast at the bottom. Taste is a bit disappointing. Although nice and complex taste with some sweet tones it dosen’t really taste as much as you might expect. Palate is just about thin but at the same time nice and tasteful. Overall a nice beer with some really nice qualities.

500ml bottle from Thornbridge Brewery Shop. Mahogany coloured body, huge and lasting beige head. Aroma of wood, hints of whisky, smoke and coffee with an undertone of cake fruits. A rich malty flavour, medium sweet, with notes of oak, smoke, and the eponymous whisky cask with a robust fruity mouthfeel. Would love to do this one again, nice.

Bottle. Brown coloured, tannish head. Really soft nice nose. Soft oakyness, figsy fruityness, sort of belgy dubbel- like malt composition, dark herbs. Full bodied, has sweetness, but very easy finish. Dark bready malts, some oak. Dark fruity. Very nice drink. Harmonious, balanced. I was afraid this would be a barrel bomb (with whiskey), but no; the whiskey&barrels are just nicely, softly, blended with a robust dark English bready maltyness and earthy herby hops. Excellent.

Bouteille 50cl partagée par Pierre, merci. BB 31/01/2016.

Bottle at Winston Fest. Deep clear mahogany copper color. Small beige head. Cardamon, caramel in the nose. Medium-bodied. Spicey and caramelly flavor with some alcohol in the flavor. Not my favourite Thornbridge.

Pours deep mahogny in color with a creamy tan head. Notes of ripe dark fruits, hints of peat and sweet maltyness in aroma. Fruity toffee taste, some woodyness too. Light nuttyness, some chocolate and hints of smokyness in taste. A lot going on, but still I’m missing something here. Light whiskey stingyness in aftertaste, almost like some medicinal herbs, but more of that flowery weirdness and sweetness is present.
