Tap @ borefts beer festival 2012. Sticky black with barely no head. Honey and smoke and lots of alcohol. Could use some age though.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines Birmingham. Poured a deep crude oil like colour with a thin tan head. The flavour is big bitter, lots of liqourice, but with a creamy consistency. The alcohol starts to dominate in the palate and the aftertaste which I’m not keen on. Still a great beer though.

Sampled from bottle thanks to jmgreenuk @ Jim is John tasting. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized light brown head. Smell malts, roastyness, coffee. Taste malts, roastyness, coffee, bitter, chocolate and overripe fruits. Nicely balanced, medium to full body and carbonation.

Bottle shared from Jmgreenuk. Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, honey, chocolate, roasted malt, licorice, a light peatiness, coffee and light herbs. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Sampled from a 0,5 L bottle, kindly shared by Øystein @Schouskjelleren. A black pour, with a low ashy blond top. Subtle honey and burnt, yet rounded cocoa to the nose. Smooth in the mouth. Soft prickling carbonation. Dry cocoa/chocolate in the flavor. Inviting honey tones underneath. Balancing peppery bitterness. A fine dryness throughout. Really good stuff. [17.01.13]

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; who know the difference between licorice and liquorice I’ve seen both mentioned is it the same thing or is one a spelling error, any this beer has zero liquorice or heather or honey I know what all these things taste like but a blank is drawn I’m ranting now. This beer is ok

Poured black with a brown head. Aroma of honey, coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, and hints of licorice. Sweet with a roasty finish. Well balanced, alcohol well hidden.

Pours impenetrable black with a fluffy tan head and rich, floral honey nose redolent of original bracia’s aroma. On swirling the honey is displaced and scents of roast barley, chocolate and aniseed appear. In the mouth its initially thick and roast coffee up front, followed by a thining, warming alcohol, red berries, some paper and red berry notes from the cask aging, sweetness I’d attribute to the pedro ximinez and a dry finish. All in All an excellent beer that perhaps is lacking in body at finish.

Cask (gravity) @ 4th Borefts Beer Festival 2012, Brouwerij de Molen, Bodegraven, Netherlands.
Clear dark black brown colour with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, hether, honey. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, burnt bitter, honey sweet, heather. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20120928]
