COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled, special
Our Imperial Oatmeal Stout has been brewed using a single temperature infusion mash. A large proportion of Scottish Oatmeal was combined with a profusion of English coloured malts to give an incredibly rich and decadent brew. To bring harmony to this powerful malt grist, English Fuggle hops were used exclusively for bittering and adding aromas of stone fruit. After primary fermentation and a period of conditioning, the beer was aged in famous Kentucky Bourbon barrels for six months, lending their unique influence to the final flavour. Conditioning was then finished in the bottle using Champagne yeast. Malts : Maris Otter, Flaked Oats, Crystal, Dark Crystal, Chocolate and Roast Barley Hops : Fuggles

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - huge thanks to Jack for this one. Pours black with a fairly thick, creamy tan head. Pretty standard dark malt nose, toast, faint cocoa. Medium sweet flavor, good alcohol, some bitter earth, baking cocoa, rich bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Oily chocolatey finish, lots of earthy bitterness, baking cocoa, earth. Good.

50cl, new exclusive English brew Anno 2012, from Beers of Europe Setchey, very complex Stout, woody/roasted and slightly alcoholic/spicy, not too heavy, very balanced, cloudy, good head, very good brew, yet expensive!

500mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of bourbon barrels upfront, a little caramel, chocolate and some oats. Flavour is well-balanced, with bourbon the most noticeable element to me, though it’s not too dominant. Secondary notes of caramel, chocolate and a little oatmeal. Seems this should be called a bourbon barrel imperial stout, as I don’t really get the oatmeal notes. The bourbon becomes a bit overburdening as you drink more. Great stuff, but a touch too much bourbon.

Aroma has cocoa powder, some woody notes, soy sauce and hints of salty licorice. Flavour has lots of salty licorice, some vanilla, oaky notes. Too salty, boozy and woody, but not bad anyway.

500 ml bottle @ WPBF 2013.
Pours a black colour with a beige head. Aroma is very smooth with roasted malts, English toffee and some bread-like notes. Flavour of roasted malts, bread, English toffee, bourbon, vanilla, wood and sweet, sweet honey. Full bodied, oily mouthfeel and a thick, oily, roasty finish with some mellow sweetness. Great stuff.

Bottle at DaDa, Sheffield. It pours opaque black with a medium tan head. The nose is sweet vanilla, marshmallow, wood, roasted malt, toasted coconut and cocoa. The taste is roasted malt, earth, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, alcohol warmth, light medicinal notes, toast and some bitterness with a dry finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Quite a lot of bourbon influence. Good depth of flavour... an enjoyable imperial stout.
