Cask: Regular. Also available bottled.
A citrus dominated India Pale Ale, its immediate impression is soft and smooth yet builds to a crescendo of massive hoppiness accentuated by honey. An enduring, bitter finish.

Slightly murky, good lacing. Aroma is citrus hop dominated with a nice smooth taste. The hops finish clean in your mouth. No weird aftertaste.

Slightly hazy gold with a clingy white head, aroma of sharp hops with a bit of floral, body brings a big malty bite with faint hints of honey and pepper, but still with those sharp grassy and citrus hops. Long astringent bitter finish.

Cask at the Gallows Bird, Espoo, Finland. XIV Real Ale Festival.
Clear golden colour with small frothy head. Strong fruity citrusy bitter hoppy aroma. Flavour is very strong bitter hoppy. Not so much fruitiness. Some malty sweetness. Bitterness stays.

ContemplateBeer (1438) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - JAN 18, 2011
Bottle from Louisville Beer Store. Aroma of substantial floral/resin hops, white sugar and lemon zest. Appearance is caramel gold with viscous white head that stayed throughout at some level. Flavor matches the nose, with a little honey on the front; the finish is mostly floral hops with a hint of resin and some caramel malt sweetness. Palate is creamy and the mouthfeel soft and slightly oily. Very good IPA that was more than a hop bomb.

Moderate floral hop aroma. Cloudy orange color with a small white head. Light bitter beginning that fades in the finish. Light palete.

500ml bottle. Poured a medium yellow color with an averaged sized white head. Aromas of citrus and lighter floral hops. Musty and stale. Tastes of rotten citrus rinds, moldy hay, and grainy.

Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours clear yellow with a fine, white creamy head. Strong hay and straw hop nose. Some citrusy sweetness starts the flavor, with good malts and fruity bitters. Light bodied with smooth carbonation. Nice, hoppy close with resin and citrus, along with lightly sweet malts backing things up. Really good!

50cl bottle from the Doemens Euro Beer Star stash. Blond color with a little sediment from bottle conditioning and a sticky, well-hopped head of bright white. Toasty, very British pale malt is evident in the aroma with a touch of grapefruit and lightly cheesy hops. Lots of the same British malt character with a touch of fruitiness and a nice fruity hop finish with lingering malt. Medium in body with soft carbonation. The main impressions I get are pale malt and a lingering bitterness. Hop aroma and flavor are less accented. This can’t be too old (best by february 1, 2011) but the hops just aren’t what I expect in an IPA. Even extra pale english malt can be a bitch for hops to stick out over though. I will definitely be seeking this out when we go to London though.

hopscotch (8552) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - NOV 14, 2010
Bottle… Cloudy yellow ale with a small, creamy, white head. Fantastic retention. The bouquet is very hoppy – musk, near-skunk, resin and lemon peel. Light to medium-bodied with a thin mouthfeel and tickling carbonation. Very flavorful. Medium to heavy metallic, tannic bitterness. Finishes bitter and dry.

[3264-20100803] Cask sample. Mildly herbaceous yeast aroma. Slightly hazy, light orange yellow body with a long-lasting creamy white head. Grain yeast flavour in bitter initially followed up by an odd herbal tang. Medium body. Interesting but has odd notes throughout.
