A citrus dominated India Pale Ale, its immediate impression is soft and smooth yet builds to a crescendo of massive hoppiness accentuated by honey. An enduring, bitter finish.

20120131 Home (40 cl bottle): A nice yellow coloured beer with a good fine whir foam layer. The aroma is slightly malty, but with a very nice fresh fruity, floral hop which is somewhat citrus-like. The taste begins with a little sweetness, but directly a hopbitter is coming up. The hopbitter ends with a fruity after taste of citrus-like, marmelade and light grapefruit. The body is a littel thin. The aftertaste is very long bitter and fruity. An IPA between American and English style.

(Bottle) Pours cloudy yellow brown with a white head. The aroma holds mild grapefruit, flowers and light yellow tropical fruits. Undertones of white bread, honey and dough. Hints of resin, canned fruits and earth. The flavour is near dry, medium bitter and tiny acidic. Citric, ligt floral, mild fruit and white bready with a touch of honey. The mouthfeel is clean and soft with a light to medium carbonation. Resinous, woodsy and grapefruity finish. Near medium bodied.

In terms of easily available (at least for someone living in North England) IPA this is really one of the best around. Lasting and varied flavours make it deliciously well-rounded, whilst it’s also not too strong to preclude one from drinking it all night. YUM!

Cask @ Gallow’s Bird Real Ale Festival 2012

Pours light orange with a small sticky and bubbly head. Aroma has notes of mild fruits, hops and caramel. Taste is slightly watery with a lot of fruity hops and hints of citrus, grass and malts. Finish is bitter and fruity. Refreshing, easy to drink and tasty IPA.

On tap at Blue Monk in Buffalo, NY. I was pleasantly surprised by this. Poured a hazy golden yellow with minimal head. Wasn’t quite as citrusy as advertised by the bar, but was really balanced. Not too killer hoppy, but really a simple, drinkable IPA. I enjoyed this a lot, it went well with the burger.

At its best, this is the proverbial ’tears of the gods’ amongst Sheffield friends. However, only one pub ever stocked it at taste-10 level, on average it is usually around 8 or 9...
