Maybe I’m just not getting it! Here goes another sacred cow. First mouthful, I could have been drinking any of a number of hoppy bitters, Marston’s springs immediately to mind, but wthout the wondrous "Burton Snatch" Bitterness builds slowly as glass drains, but just not enough of anything "massive" as the tag line says. Tried two years ago on draught at GBBF and was hugely disappointed, this was 500ml bottle from Waitrose - thank god it was on offer. I really expected more from the glory boys of UK brewing.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2012 Original rating - 3.5 Pint in Argyll Arms, London. Rerated in King’s Head, Stafford St, London. Big improvement and clearly was not fresh when previously tasted as this is zinging with citrous hops. Touch cloudy amber, creamy white head. Nose is lemon and grapefruit citrous, caramel malt backbone and honeyish perfumey notes. Taste is creamy head, pithy citrous fruit, including orange, lemon and grapefruit. Honey sweetness and also caramel malt. This is bloody good. Previously had tasted more like an English IPA, so crisp and caramel with a sharp crisp bite. But this is very much like an American IPA, but lots of fruit to balance hop bitterness.

Bottle from Waitrose. Pours a pale golden colour with a thin head. Very pleasant sweet fruity aroma with biscuity malt notes and a little citrusy hop. Hops lead on the taste, providing a good balance between hop bitterness and the sweet malt and citrusy fruit notes that are so prominent in the aroma. Finishes with a lingering bitter aftertaste.
