Vienna lagers, named after the city they were originally brewed in, has become a classic style of lager but one rarely brewed in the UK. Thornbridge’s take on the style is “Kill Your Darlings” which is reddish brown in colour with a medium body and characterized by a malty aroma and slight malt sweetness. A twist on this style has been added by late hopping with Amarillo and Tettnanger hops. After a period of cold fermentation the beer has been lagered for five weeks. “We have done the waiting so that you can enjoy the crisp fresh flavours and in our opinion this is a beer best drunk as fresh as possible” says Brewery Production Director, Rob Lovatt.

Bu à la pression en 33cl, couleur ambrée et mousse épaisse, une grosse odeur de blé avec una attaque violente sur le malt.

A dark coppery beer with a quite big and blond head. The nose is bready, some caramell, wood and lemon. Taste is quite similar than aroma. Toffeeish and bready malts, some citrusfruits, nice bitterness. Medium bodied, nice and fresh carbonation, could be more smooth. A basic beer from Thornbridge at this time, no mistakes but also quite boring.

Bière légère en bouche, à la robe d’un beau rouge foncé. Malts bien présents mais manque de corpulence. Bue et à boire bien fraîche, si possible à la pression

500ml bottle @Cimmeria.25-2-2014.
In short: a correct amber lager.
Pours deep amber, quite clear, with nice off white head. Short head retention, some lacing. Malty, caramel, fruity and roasty aromas. Light to medium body, average carbonation, oily texture. Taste is caramel, some fruity hints, nice subtle roasty flavours. Well balanced, smooth and quite enjoyable. Well executed one.

Tap @ Põrgu. Pours red amber with off white head. Aroma is caramel, malt, sweetness, caramel. Taste: malty, sweet, caramel, watery, hoppy bitterness. Overall: not bad for the style, but too much carbo for me. It seems to be common problem with every Thornbridge beer that I have tasted.

On tap at CBC Brixton. Pours a slightly murky reddy brown colour with a white head. Light aroma, not a huge amount that's discernible to be honest. Light to medium body, full carbonation, a little thin. Caramel, light woodiness, and that's about it. Very little to this. Not great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap@annak. Red amber. Raisiny caramel, hoppy herbs. Medium bodied, dry but with a sweet caramelly flavour. Some candy and candi in finish. Ok,strong caramelly vienna. Can’t have too much of this tho..

Tap @ Rotterdam, Hki. Mahogany color, thin off white head. Caramel, bready malt, grassy hops in aroma. Flavorwise quite similar with caramel, malt, sweetness, hops. Mild bitter finish. Typical Vienna, a style I’m not very fond of. Boring.
