3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hand pulled at the Rose Villa Tavern, Birmingham. Black as your hat - if, indeed, your hat is black like this beer - with a small white head. Very watery start to this - I think it is too cold as I’m not picking much up except vanilla ice cream. Slight coffee aftertaste. But maybe that’s the point? Very slight aroma. No trousers. Slightly disappointing.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On Cask @ Coach and Horses, Dronfield - absolutely certain I’d had this in 2012 already, a classic stout look, jet vlack with a tan head that laces all the way through. The smoothness is there for all to see all the way through the drink, the vanilla notes are there before, during and after with this one... like a black liquid ice-cream. Class in a glass.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask @ CPK. Chestnut brown color with a tiny tan head. The nose is sugared nuts, milk chocolate. Lactose. Brown sugar. The taste is more milk chocolate, plenty of vanilla. Some toasty malts. Light watery coffee finish. The body’s a bit thin, though I don’t mean it as a criticism. Quite sweet and flavorful.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask at Euston Tap, London. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Sweet, vanilla, coffee aroma. Tastes similar, vanilla, coffee, hint of chocolate, malty and quite smooth. This stout was a little thin for me but still quite decent.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 21, 2012 Cask at The Euston Tap, London. Pours brown with a tighy, creamy tan head. Definite nips of vanilla in the aroma, with subtle milk chocolate. Medium sweet flavor, some roasty cocoa, semi-sweet vanilla, mild burnt wood. Medium bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Dries out a bit on the finish, with some modest tobacco, bittersweet cocoa, vanilla, mild roast. Lasting roasty bitterness. Nicely integrated vanilla in this one. Very good beer. (3.8)
Cask at CPK, London. Pours brown with a beige foam head. Nice vanilla and charred malt roast aroma with cocoa, too. Medium sweet flavor with lots of dry cocoa, light vanilla and chocolate syrup. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dry finish with light, leafy bitterness, vanilla, earth, dirt and rich cocoa. Very nice. (3.8)

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at The York Tap. Really quite special. Smooth, rich, dark and oh-so-easy to drink too much off. Nice candy-vanilla flavour to it that doesn’t get too cloying. More than just a novelty!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hand pulled at the Post Office Vaults, Birmingham. Licorice aroma. Jet black with ruby shafts. No head. Initially light and smooth choc, but moves thru the gears on the roasted finish. Good bitter finish, but didn’t really get the vanilla.
