3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hand pulled at the Post Office Vaults, Birmingham. Licorice aroma. Jet black with ruby shafts. No head. Initially light and smooth choc, but moves thru the gears on the roasted finish. Good bitter finish, but didnít really get the vanilla.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark reddish brown, bubbly cream head. Nose is roast malt, dark chocolate, hint of vanilla. Drinkable but slightly thin palate, coffee roast followed by sweet vanilla/chocolate, with a resinous yet ashy bitter finish. Not bad, but perhaps I expect more from Thornbridge.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On cask (handpump) at the Markey Porter on 27 January 2007. Very dark brown colour - nearly black but not quite. Not much head. Restrained dark malt aroma. Much more roasty on the palate with some burnt bitterness. Distinctly dry with a firm, but relatively light bodied mouthfeel, which made for an easy drinkability. Not weedy though. Rather enjoyable, if fairly straightforward. Canít say I picked up much vanilla.

Cask at the Cask Pub & Kitchen, Victoria, 3rd May 2010. Black with little head. Very smooth with a slight meaty/salami aroma. Less hoppy than the Raven and very little sign of the vanilla!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask conditioned handpump Cask & Kitchen Pimlico. A black beer with a thick white head. This has all the classic hallmarks of a vanilla stout with good roasty notes and balancing vanilla. It is however disappointing short in the finish and even gives the impression of being a tad watery. Maybe itís because itís Thronbridge that I expected so much better because my score proves itís a decent beer but I wanted more.

Nice toasted almond-vanilla aroma with some dark malt accents. Clear garnet black with a white ring. Tons of vanilla in the flavour, followed by roasted coffee, chocolate, and a dark malt bitterness. Light body, moderate carbonation, very slightly bitter finish.
