4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
27th April 2012
Cellar run at the Craft - thanks a million Tom! Light haze on this gold beer, thins white head. Light semi dry palate, mild crispness. Strong flowers! But light and sweet and not at all syrupy or sickly. White flowers* with some violets. Underneath is a lovely sweet and sour orange that stops the floralness from being cloying. Finishes semi dry with more floral notes and sweet flowers in the aftertaste. Loved it. I’m sure this won’t be everyone’s cup of char - their loss! This is a belter.
* White flowers? It means not violets, rose, hibiscus, elderflower but something still clearly floral. Need a new vocabulary!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
13 oz draft on tap at Bavarian Lodge (Lisle, IL). Pours a richer amber orange hue, a bit darker overall, richer orange edges with a nice haze, dulled fiery sunset glow at times, darker with cakey offwhite head, dies to a good film and laces ok. Aromas are richer jasmine and bitter floral hops. Dry and hoppy, touches of lemon, grass, and some jasmine really grows. A touch of orange, mellow resinous pine. Touches of bready and biscuity malts, grainy breads. Initial is medium bodied, offering healthy bitter florals, earthy hops. Gentle pine, lemon, and growing jasmine like elements. Middle offers some dryness, grainy and bready malts, touches of dryness, pine, and lemons. Oranges, florals, some dryness and mellow sweetness. We roll into the backend with some sticky qualities, bit of paper, some dryness and florals. Lingering jasmine qualities and earthy bitter hops as we work on. Finish is some dryness, gentle lingering florals and lemons, touches of dry and bitter hops are the focus, with some malty bread, biscuits, some faint touches of sweeter elements. A nice beer, fresh and fairly hop driven, the jasmine adds a pleasant element. Solid.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at Craft Beer Co, London. Really nice and floral beer here, translucent amber and fairly healthy head. Strong, sweet nose as expected, almost floral enough for a puja offering natch. Really well done and satisfying IPA, with enough bitterness in the taste to balance things out.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is quite a dangerous beer. Tastes almost light and floral, like an elderflower beer, but with far more punch. The jasmine and Parma violet notes carry the buttering hops far too well. As a result this is an extremely drinkable beer that belies its strength. Really nice too.
