COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask and bottles; semi-regular.
Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Dark brown color, huge and staying brownish head. Some lacing. Medium to full body, soft carbonation. Aroma of pine, resin, grapefruit, roasted malt, hints of chocolate. Medium bitter, lightly sweet taste. Very long bitter finish. I tried to love it, but it just didn’t happen to me.

Pretty much black with a creamy beige head and heavy lacing. Soft aroma of citrus, chocolate, and dark fruit. Some bitter, some roasty, and some fruity sweet flavors in pretty similar measures. Medium bodied and fluffy.

Vltavassa. Very enjoyable black IPA, well balanced and delicate. Quite easy, still interesting.

Bottle. Drank May last year. Pours deep brown / black with a medium, creamy head. Aroma is full of roasted malts, dark chocolate and hoppiness (Grassy, sprucy and citrusy). Slightly ashy, medium bitter finish.

Very dark brown, off-white head that goes quickly but leaves some thick lacing. Aroma is initially citrus, which later on mellows and mixes with some cola. Great mixture of flavours - pineapple and orange alongside chocolate and coffee alongside elements of roasted malts and bitterness. Medium bodied, slightly oily, slightly creamy. I’ll be having this again!

Pours a very dark brown with minimal white head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of malt, grapes and figs. Taste of figs, barley, coco and malt. A definite winner.

Pours a dark brown, opaque, with a thick off-white head. Aromas of pine and forest floor. Tastes lean towards caramel maltiness. Definite bitter hop presence. Overall smells a bit better than it tastes and it tastes pretty darned good.

Donker kruidig van smaak, rozijnen met alcohol en beetje IPA achtig. Aroma is wederom passievrucht met kiwi, maar dan met gebrand suiker. Geen kraag op donker. Wordt beter naarmate minder. Fles @ 24 uurs Maastricht.

On tap at Euston Tap, pours a deep dark amber brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a bit odd, with some nail polish and light toasted malt. Flavour is lightly toasted, with some weird fungal notes, toasted malt and a moderate hop balance. Not the most refined black IPA - there isn’t a whole lot of roast or hops in this. Not great.
