COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask and bottles; semi-regular.
Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

(Draught at Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm) Black colour with lasting, creamy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of chocolate, toffee, caramel, pine needles and hints of funky yeast coming through after a while. Malty, fruity taste with chocolate, toffee, roasted malt, caramel, dried fruit, pine needles and a generous bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. A bit fruitier and with a more soft and mellow mouthfeel than the original Raven. Very nice.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 27 Nov 2009) Black colour with hints of ruby, brief beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, grapefruit and lots of fresh hops. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of chocolate, cocoa, black coffee, black-currant and resiny, piney hops in a long bitter finish. More than medium body, balanced sweetness. Interesting beer, looks like a stout but tastes like an IPA. Lovely beer though.
