COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask and bottles; semi-regular.
Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

From tap at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Black color with beige head. Hoppy piney - juniper aroma. Roasted malty notes when it gets warmer. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Gusto abboccato, ai limiti dell’amabile all’ingresso.

Strong constant aroma throughout. Very dark red / brown with initial high carbonation giving very large foamy beige head. Soft and smooth on tongue, earthy roast aftertaste.

A lovely Black IPA. It combines the bitterness and dryness in the hops with the earthy roast of the malts. Depending on temperature you smell chocolate and coffee as well as a complex pattern of various earthy aromas. It’s light to drink despite being a ’black’ and is a good example of how the classic IPA can be enhanced with malts. Try it!

Bottle. Pours a ruby brown colour with a thick foamy beige head. Aroma of pineapple, orange and pine from the hops, also sweet chocolate malt. Taste of roasted malt and bitter chocolate as well as citrusy grapefruit and pineapple hoppiness, hint of liquorice too. Medium bodied and bittersweet. A long, dry roasted finish. Another good beer from a great brewery.

Draft at Maloney’s (Matawan). Pours dark brown/black in color with a finger foamy off white head. Aroma black malts, chocolate, and sweet citrus fruit. Taste basically mimics the nose with notes of burnt citrus and burnt malts.
