COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask and bottles; semi-regular.
Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

30.05.2015, tap @ HaandFestival:
Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly neutral, hay, dried grain, weeds, dark malts, wet hops, hints of sulfur. Taste is slightly sour-ish dry, weeds, hay, cereal, grass, grain, bark, dark malts. Longlasting bitterness, harsh watery mouthfeel. Black IPA they say? Meh...

Pours dark brown with a small amber golden glare and a lacing off-white head. Aroma is fruity and mild hoppy. Bitter, mild peachy and grapefruity hops flavoured. Distinct bitter and dry. Bitter and dry fruity into a bitter finish.

Pours as dark as the night, with a huge, stable head. Smells of grassy, wet grass hops, together with roasted, cocoa infused malts. Has a dank, fish scale fortified undertone, with mango shining through. The hops establish a certain dankness, which creates an interesting interplay between the malty qualities of the beer and its tropical fruits. Has a medium carbonation with a smooth yeast appearance, creating a pleasant mouthfeel. While the beer got a gentle complexity to it, it remains refreshing. Tastes of grass enriched orange, blood orange and papaya, while an earthy maltiness sets the foundation. A metallic note from the carbonation ties the different flavours together, by providing a sharp metallic bitter whiff, as well as an earthy coppery sweetness. The finish features a dry hop impact, defined by wet grass, accompanied by roasted cocoa nibs, revealing coffee qualities. Its bitterness stays long on the palate, while being accompanied by barky coffee flavors. Wow, very intense and extremely versatile. The hoppy part of the beer is very prominent, not only providing the typical fruits but also ice-bonbon topped wet grass. The resulting dankness blends well into the malts, due to the noteable carbonation, hops and earthen malts stay on par on the palate, creating a fantastic tasting beer.

Darkest brown with big lasting tan head. Really well balanced BIPA this. The roasty malts work perfectly in harmony with the piney hops. Nice bitter finish. Very quaffable. Good stuff.

50cl bottle shared at home. Clear dark brown with a medium off-white. Medium body with low to medium carbonation. Well balanced bitter and sweet tones. Roasted malts, caramel, brown sugar, hops and some herbs. A tasty BIPA.

Pours a really dark brown with reddish hues sitting under an ample head of off white foam. Big notes of pine and roasted malt in the smell. Some chocolate of the dark variety. Tastes even better than it smells. I get some pineapple out of the hops that are used. Gloriously smooth on the palate and very easy drinking. A marvelous brew!

Very deep brown body with a large, creamy, fully lasting beige head that laces the glass excellently. Very strong aroma of roasted malt, sweet caramel, and plenty of hoppy notes of the generically fruity kind. Strong flavour that follows the aroma, with a bit more contributions from the tropics in the fruit basket. Light sweet taste with a quite heavy bitter long-lasting finish. Mid-bodied and dry on the palate. Delicious!
[sample from tap, probably shared with some guys @ Haand ølfestival, Drammen]
