Cask and bottles; semi-regular.
Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Hops are hidden in the aroma but complex tasting. I had to think about it for a bit, but then it came to me. Mice. If’ you’ve ever had a mouse infestation, you know the smell / mustiness - this tastes of that. Tastes gamey with a faint tang of blue cheese / stilton. Small hint of bacon saltiness with bananas.Hops appear in the burp..Dry back end with roast, licqourice and mild hop. More like a good porter wih a hint of IPA thrown in.

Cask at Urban Tap House, Cardiff, late August 2014. Very nice, although the hops got a bit lost amongst the roasted malts making it more like a hoppy porter than a punchy black IPA.

Aroma of the IPA passion-fruit, pours a dark brown with a full frothy head which settles but has good retention, full bodied Ale with warming sensations, very good drinking, easily drink more of this BIPA

(bottle) Almost black coloured hue with a beige and firm foamy head. Mildly roasted and slightly leafy malty aroma with notes of cassis, spicy hops and traces of leather. Moderately bitter and delicately sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a calm carbonation. Slightly roasted malt character with a slightly leathery touch, backed by a distinctively fruity hoppy touch of cassis/black currant, which lingers through the mildly roasty and spicy hoppy finish into the aftertaste. Almost easy-going BIPA, very pleasant. 13.VIII.14

Pours with medium head, dark brown colour in appearance. Smell is very pleasant with a hint of mustard like sharp finish. Taste is very pleasant, not too bitter, very nice aftertaste. Carbonation just helps release the full flavour. Excellent beer!

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2014 500ml bottle shared in a Struise glass. Pours a very dark (but thin) brown with a generous and foamy off-white head which last well. Aroma is overpowering hops and resin notes. Taste is more of the same with a fleeting taste of tart blackcurrants which then progresses into flowery hops and pine notes with a citric bitter finish. Unfortunately, my hopes were too high for this as the only BIPA I have tried previously is Struise S.H.I.T which was truly magnificent. This on the other hand was too much IPA and not enough black.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
