COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask and bottles; semi-regular.
Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Bottle. Dark brown (mahogany) body with a reddish hue. Medium head. Licorice and piney hops in the aroma. Hoppy taste accompanied by some roast sharpness. Mouthfeel could be a bit richer. Semi-watery finish. A good drinking beer but not terribly exciting.

Pours a dark ruby red with eggshell head. Pure IPA with floral, and citrusy hops on the nose. Flavours bring more pine and citrus with an addition of tropical fruits. Hints of chocolate malt make for a nice accent, while a bready malt character keeps a good balance.

Pours black with fine beige head. Aroma of citrus, pine hops, oranges. Pineaplles. Taste is similar with sweet notes of barley malts, roasted dark chocolate and hoppy finish, which lasting in aftertaste. Overall very good Black IPA, I still prefer a little higher abv.

Bottled, 500ml from S.H.Jones in Banbury. Very dark brown with cream head. There are plenty of dark roasted malty notes happening in the body of the beer, liquorice, slightly tarry but not overly so. It’s probably the beers greatest strength is the restraint of not overdoing any particular element. The hops are abundant, zesty, clean with tropical fruit and citrus flavours, but again, not dominating. It is a joy to drink, well brewed sirs.

Enticing passion-citrus aroma in a coke coloured pour. Hop forward flavour is an excellent example of the style and leaves one wanting another for sure.

Bottle bought at Geers, shared at home. Pours black with a nice light beige head. Nose is english-style IPA, spicy, herbal, little fruity. Taste is very roasted, some bitter hops but not too much. Nice mouthfeel.

From tap at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Black color with beige head. Hoppy piney - juniper aroma. Roasted malty notes when it gets warmer. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Gusto abboccato, ai limiti dell’amabile all’ingresso.
