Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Bottle. Dark almost black with a brown nice looking head. Big aroma with pine, fresh hops, resin and some more darker things like chocolate and roasted malt. Taste well balanced and rich with lots of nice hops giving you pine, grapefruit and some spice well integrated with the darker malts bringing you dark chocolate and pumpernickel. A really good long lingering beer.

Butelka 500ml. Czarny kolor z rubinowym refleksem. Piana bezowa ,wysoka niezle utrzymuje sie w szkle. Aromat sosnowych szyszek plonych slodow lekkie nuty karmelowe i czekolady. Karbonacja niska. W smaku poczatkowo slodkawe z przebijajacymi sie nutami karmelowymi i slodkich owocow jak ananas potem ,niezly goryczkowy finisz dzieki gorzkiej czekoladzie i cytrusom.

500ml bottle. Deep dark brown with a dense creamy beige head. Aroma: roasted malts, pine, dark chocolate, dark fruits, citrus. Taste: roasted malts, citrus, pine, coffee, light sweet with a bitter hoppy finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Nice.

Bottle at Speciaalbier Café De Markies, Leeuwarden. Aroma is dark malt, roasted notes, berries, fruity hops, touch of chocolate, grassy notes. Flavour is light sweet and medium bitter. Body is medium. Overall pretty good Black IPA.

On tap at Fermentoren Aarhus. Pours a clear blackish with a medium sized off white head. Aroma has toasted and roasted malts, lots of hops, sorachi ace, simcoe. Taste is has dill, roasted malts, mint, light sweetness, medium bitterness. Nice balance, lots of spice. Average to high carbonation and a medium body.

From bottle it’s mostly clear dark brown with a short head. Aroma is basement must, charcoal, stale chocolate, greens, mushrooms, cheese, BO. Medium bodied, somewhat watery and thin without much malt support, and carbonation is timid. Kind of bland and empty overall. Might be old but there’s no way to tell.
