COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special.
Thornbridge has released a black IPA for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2013 Vegemitey aroma. Taste is very smooth malt with a lovely moderately bitter finish. Definitely a sessional black ipa.

Bottle. Complex aroma. Strong piney and resiny notes, pineapple, some mandarine and orange, dark chocolate and earthy hints. Rather full bodied, flavourful and bitter, though with a relaxed, mellow feeling to it. Great beer!

Bottle from Etre Gourmet. Pours clear dark amber with a big frothy tanned head. Aroma is fruity hops, with lots of malty goodness as well. Taste is light roasted malts, hints of smoke, resiny and piney hops. Smooth and delicious. Very nice.

Clear dark black brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, heavy hoppy, citrus, grapefruit. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, fresh hops. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

An interesting expression of the black IPA, with almost no traces of roasted malts in aroma or taste. Well balanced and careful hopping results in a very fine brew indeed.

Bottle from Asahiya. Superb hop aroma: piney and stinky. Dark translucent brown. Nice mixed flavors: citrus, dark malt, tropical fruit. Goes into maltiness and some yogurt. Medium body. Great stuff! Could drink this often.
