COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special.
Thornbridge has released a black IPA for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.

Bottle, Rehills, Ncl. Yep. the big 5. This is a stunning beer, no other word for it. Huge beautiful hoppy aroma, amazing concoction of flavours dance all over my tongue, grassy fresh hops, berries, cherries, sweetness, bitterness, just everything I want froma a beer and then some. I want to put down more, but I don’t think there’s enough superlatives. Wish I’d bought the entire stock from the shop.....

Bottle with my husband. Black with a tan head. Roasted malts and tropical fruits in the aroma Taste: Much like the aroma with a nice lingering bitter ending. One of the better balanced black IPA’s I’ve had

50 cl. bottle @ home // A: dark brown with a lightly tanned head // S: yes Sorachi Ace & Nelson Savignon (which I only picked up after tasting it, I am really getting bitter kiwi now, lots of awesome hops (I really like those two), chcocolate malts, flowers, utterly awesome // T & B: light chocolate malts, only downer about this is that the body is kind of grainy upfront & not as thick as I would love but, chocolate malts, blueberries, immediately got Sorachi Ace & Savignon, not sure how Centinal taste like, maybe I picked it up, bitter kiwi, white grapes, some melon, touch eartly sweet Sorachi, flowers, candy, nuts, I adore these hops in here, spend 10 min. cursing about how awesome this was at first, if not for the body, which is a small minus, I would worship this, man, those hops, especially how they work here, Thornbridge makes phenomenal IPA’s & this … dear lord … ridiculous amount of cursing in English, Dutch, French, Russian,… <3 Thornbridge // Dry-hopped Version Cask @ ACBF 2012 // A: black with a tanned, touch red head // S: lots of hops, grapefruit & Nelson // T: bitter coffee, chocolate malts, bitter cold coffee, followed by bitter grapefruit hops, touch fruity // B: touch lighter than bottle version // Dry-hoppped version, the incredible balance of hops that I adored is lost here, bottle version is way better // great stuff here

Bottle 0,50L. Black coloured with some ruby shades and big, light brown head. Mostly hoppy aroma, combination of grapefruit and elderberry with some dark chocolate notes from the background. Chocolate bitter mouthfeel, dense, full bodied, creamy beer.

500ml bottle - a beautiful black pour with a lacy white head, as nice as you’ll ever see from a bottle. The nose is fruit, malt, and more sour fruits. A bitter first bite, typical IPA, then malt and a bit of caramel. Nice oily feel, yet refreshing, great overall. A favourite.

Bottle. Dark brown, beige head. Really strong grapefruit and pine in the nose for an English black IPA. Tastes the same with a nice roastiness. Nice sticky mouthfeel.

Draft at the Euston Tap. Pours a very dark brown with a stern, frothy beige head. Brilliant aroma of intense pine with some light caramel lurking about. Flavor is equally if not more divine. Quite sweet with honey, citrusy orange and pineapple, some resinous hops, then wonderful, understated roasdted malts. Medium bodied with average, smooth carbonation. Finishes sweet and lightly sugary, with some sticky hops and mild roast. Just incredible all around.

[Gravity cask at Reading BF] Black with a large, loose beige head. Huge floral aromas. Big hit of citrus on the initial taste - mrs fonefan said she could tell how good it was by the big smile that appeared on my face. Then there’s some coffee, and a bitter roasted flavour - possibly a little too burnt for my liking, but only just. Pine arrives late to the party, but you can taste it for some time afterwards. I’ve never had a black IPA before, and to me it wasn’t like a stout and IPA mixed together (as some people have suggested). It was more like you’re drinking a separate stout and IPA at the same time. It shouldn’t work, but it does - this is an outstanding beer. If all black IPAs are this good, I want more!

First glance and I thought I was about to get the taste of a stout. Smelt like black current soothers (the only thing good about having a sore throat really)! The taste sensation that ensued was amazing, very hoppy and choc malt balanced well together. Something different and that is what one has come to expect from Thornbridge Brewery and I hope this becomes a regluar beer from them.
