At tap in Black Door. Bitter for an imperial stout. Some roasted and coffee notes but not that great. Some licorice.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Benjii (3049) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 15, 2012
In bottle, thanks Craig. Pours a very dark brown colour with a fair light tan head. Aroma is faintly vegetal with dark chocolate, raisins, blackberries and alcohol. Similar flavours with honey and nuts, Macallan whisky, chocolate and a long alcohol hum. Mild carbonation and CO2 prickle. Really complex.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BenH (1335) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - JUN 15, 2012
Bottle, thanks Craig. Black with a bubbly light tan head. Pleasant aroma if a little faint, cola and a little chocolate. Similar taste, little burnt sugar, bit smoke in the background. A tad thin perhaps, clean finish. Nice.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 marcus (5005) - Sacramento, California, USA - APR 25, 2011
Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours black with a decent tan head and a chocolate aroma. There is a subtle smooth chocolate and treacle flavor with a long dry finish. An elegant surprise from Thornbridge.

375 from Charleston Beer Exchange. Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is dark malt in a whiskey way. Med bodied. Flavor is dark fruity, with something lightly fruity and refreshing. There’s some oaky astringency. It’s subtle.

375mL bottle from 2006, pours black with a tan head. Aroma of whiskey, peat and light smoke. Flavour of the same, with a bit of an iodine quality. Whiskey flavours dominate. Not sure this has aged too well.

5th March 2010. Pre ZBF. Opaque black beer, no head. Almost zero carbonation. Rich chocolate malt. Just a little whisky coming through in the finish which is also quite minerally. Hops present a little in the aftertaste.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JUL 8, 2010
Bottle drunk at home, 25th May 2010 with tashi. Pure black with a persistent beige head. Sweet, almost perfumed nose. Very smooth and silky with a warming note at the back of throat, as if spiced, but with no chilli. Very sweet for this sort of beer, sticks to the teeth, little sign of hops (unlike with Brewdog Paradox). Rich, smooth sweet maltiness - nice roasted notes. I was expecting a harsh, jagged beer and got quite the opposite. Restrained and subtle.

Tap @ pre-ZBF 2010. Dark black color. Aroma of roasted malt, soft tone of whisky. Hint of blackcurrant.

@ Pre ZBF. The aroma has whisky, some coffee, malts, liquorice. Black colored beer with a beige head. The taste is sweet, has some bitter malts, liquorice, whisky. Some smooth coffee. I liked the Highland version better.
