@ Pre ZBF. The aroma has whisky, some coffee, malts, liquorice. Black colored beer with a beige head. The taste is sweet, has some bitter malts, liquorice, whisky. Some smooth coffee. I liked the Highland version better.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from pre-ZBF store. Almost black, tan head that really lasts, solid, delicate lacing - who said that barrel aged ales couldnít have a head or lacing?? Aroma of licorice, bitter cocoa, subtle whisky. Taste has dark bitter chocolate, oak, prunes. Whisky is apparent only in the finish. Lighter body than expected. Nice brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at Pre-ZBF 2010. Dark brown with creamy beige head. Whisky notes and flavour balanced with oak, vanilla, chocolate and licorice. Smooth on the palate and chocolate malty finish. Iím not familiar with Macallan whisky but the barrel has parted with pleasant character. Just not quite up there with the Islay blend.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured with black color and a decent beige head. Barrel, coffee, roasted malts, molasses, licorice and some anise in its aroma, quite complex. Bitterness and alcohol in the finish. This is the second time I had this one, and to be honest I didnít like it so much at the pre-ZBF. However, with clear tastebuds, itís actually a very nice brew. Second time I enjoyed it a lot.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle@Home, vintage 2006. Flavourful beer with the speyside whisky well present. Easy going, likeable but not very complex. Another down point is a strange bitterness in the back of your throat.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very good beige head, leaving lace over pitch-black beer. Roasted malts, whisky, alcohol & fusels, spices as black cardemom and vanilla; rather sweetish. Bitter/dry-roasted at first, some vanilla and faint whisky; then going over to rather sweet-alcohol, with liquorice and eggbread. Creamy MF, some alcoholwarming, quite slick, not viscous. Nice, if rather unspectacular. Once more, Islay casks really top everything else.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 29, 2010 Tasted at PreZBF Festival, Belgium.
Black colored beer with a small tan/beige head. Aroma of some smoke, liquorice, anise and whisky. Flavor of liquorice, peat, quite sweet, light wooden cask, mild roasted malt. Interesting licorice-anise aftertaste with the whisky-cask in the background..
