Imperial Russian Stout
Rich and dark with smoke, subtle peatiness and the power of the dark malts. Molasses and liquorice and chocolate goodness all wrapped up in a smooth, warming liquid. Finishes with a distinct humming bitterness carried well by the hop and malt combo.

Served in a snifter from a bottle. Pours very dark brown, almost opaque colour with a large copper head. Aroma is a nice combination of molasses, raisins, plum and yeast. Taste predominantly is of molasses and raisins with a slight bitter aftertaste. Medium carbonation and creamy body but somehow it finishes off with a rather sharp finish. Not my favourite but still good enough.

50cl bottle in Duporth from Bitter Virtue, Southampton. Nose is roasted malt, dried fruits. Body is black, head is very small, beige, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee, quinine, light smoke. Light sweet, heavy bitter. Finish is long lasting medium roasty heavy hoppy bitter. Medium body, thin texture, soft carbonation. Not very easy due to heavy bitterness, not bad.

This pours from the 500ml bottle close to black but really a very very dark brown with 2 fingers of tannish foam. It looks great in my New Belgium goblet and I see some very nice lacing. The smell is of roasted malt and dark chocolate bitterness and a tad of some hoppiness. It doesn’t have the most assertive nose of the style but what’s there is nice. The taste starts off with some nice dark chocolate bitterness and then the roasted malt moves in with a touch of some milk chocolate like sweetness and some smokiness that I notice the more sips I take. Wow. This is striking my taste buds on all the right notes. Not much of an alcohol presence here so, nah, I’m still, as always, going to take my sweet time. This is a brew to sip and savour. The mouthfeel is on the high end of medium with lowish carbonation but the real story here is how silky smooth it is. I haven’t had a brew with that degree of smoothness in a long time... Bottle conditioned? You have me convinced. Drinkability? There’s pretty much nothing to dislike here. Great looking, good nose, super tasty, little sign of the abv, awesome mouthfeel. This, in my book, is a superb drinker.

Kolor: ciemnobrunatny, klarowny.<br.
Zapach: średnio intensywny i trochę mało stoutowy, słodowy, karmelowy, opiekany, wyraźne aromaty chmielowe, owocowe, kwiatowe, trochę cytrusa, earl grey, na dalszym planie lekka czekolada, kawa, delikatny alkohol.
