Imperial Russian Stout
Rich and dark with smoke, subtle peatiness and the power of the dark malts. Molasses and liquorice and chocolate goodness all wrapped up in a smooth, warming liquid. Finishes with a distinct humming bitterness carried well by the hop and malt combo.

I ripped the crown off and poured. Odd. The last Imperial Russian Stout I poured was so viscous that it just about had lumps in it. This one, not so much. It even appears lighted with a definite clarity in the lower inch of the glass that looks the colour of polished mahogany. It looks the goods on top though with a covering of cream coloured head that was leaving good lace down the side of the glass. The aroma was that of salty Dutch licorice, molasses and some oakiness, also some polished leather as well. To taste there is a slick, silky mouthfeel that is gratifying. There’s mature flavours of plum, oak and leather again. Add in the odd truckload of savoury licorice and you’ve got this one down to a tee. It’s a tasty devil and not like other IRS I’ve indulged in.

Bottle 0,50L. Very dark, ruby/brown colour with large, frothy, light brown, long lasting head. Not so strong aroma of chocolate, caramel/molassaes, roasted malts and some herbs. Rich, medium bitter taste with a lot of chocolate and coffee with long lasting, bitter aftertaste. Medium body, dry texture, lively carbonation. Excellent stout.

Black color;medium-sized , beige head. Aroma of chocolate , roasted caramel , raisins . Same notes in taste . Surprisingly easy to drink , probably ,because of lower then in the average American Imperial stout ABV . However it doesn’t lose anything in palate because of that. I’d say , even goes out of the crowd.

ASPETTO: marrone scurissimo, praticamente impenetrabile.

Poured from 500ml bottle at Metro in Lahti Finland. It was good but not great. A bit more bitter after taste than I would like in an Imperial Stout. It finishes like an IPA. which is great but not in this style.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Max’ place. Thanks Excellent Little Brother for the delivery! Black with a white head. Lots of chocolate, some cherry and some vanilla in the nose, mild bitterness, mildly roasty and fully malty taste. A little alcoholic finish, no carbonation, full body.

Very dark, creamy head. Hard roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, rye, dry, pecans. String bitterness, very full flavoured. Loads of roast over a body that is lighter than often in such heavy tasting imperial stouts, but certainly not watery. I like how it’s rich and still quite drinkable, also because of the high carbonation. Excellent brew, great quality. (50cl bottle from Saveur Bière)
