Imperial Russian Stout
Rich and dark with smoke, subtle peatiness and the power of the dark malts. Molasses and liquorice and chocolate goodness all wrapped up in a smooth, warming liquid. Finishes with a distinct humming bitterness carried well by the hop and malt combo.

On tap at Mosquito, Barcelona. Pours dark brown with tan head. Malty, caramel, liquorice, roasted malts. Expected more really.

Bottle from Pothole (Koht’s newly opened bottle shop) in Tallinn (€ 4,40), July 2014. Pours a very dark brown, near black, with a reddish hue; the massive tan head retains extremely well, good lacing too. Nose... eeem, nose is... well, my nose is inside the friggin foam and I must say it’s enjoying the dip. It’s sweet (burnt sugar and caramel); not much chocolate or roastiness to mention. There’s also a clear clue in the nose that it’s gonna be boozy. Taste is caramelly sweet, malty, faintly chocolaty, somewhat tart, and indeed boozy, like dark plums soaked in liqueur. Full body, soft palate, very little carbonation. Finish is boozy, quite unexpectedly so for a mere (khm) 7,4% ABV, and a lot of bitterness (ca 70 IBU maybe?). Which both kind of kill off the otherwise great experience. It’s a rough and tough one.

Hmm...I love Thornbridge but not sure this is great. Dark brown and opaque - almost black- with a slight off- white head and good lacing. Get the liquorice and the peat. And the molasses more than the chocolate. Roasted malts could be in there stronger to balance these tastes off.

Pleasantly strong taste, roasted but in balance. Some hints of cream and caramel. Easy to drink, didn’t have the consistency of old motor oil as previously expected. Would drink again if I would find any!

Light imperial stout, very roasty bitter but not very complex. Chocolate, dark malts, coffee beans, licorice, soya sauce. I prefer their golden beers!

Bottle. Black with tan head. In aroma roastiness, dark malts, not very intensive. In taste dark malts, some liquorice, roastiness. Medium bitter finish. Little watery on the mouhfeel, low carbonated. For a RIS it is not enough, for stronger stout - maybe. In overall I’m disappointed.
