3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(bottle) Hazy, yellow colour with a blond and firm foamy head. Yeasty and slightly dusty English malty aroma with subtle fruity accents and a whiff of grassy hops in the background. Mildly bitter and delicately sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a crisp carbonation. Soft pale malty base with present wheaty notes, hints of salted cracker, mildly grassy hops show up from the middle part; quite dry, bitter hoppy finish with notes of grain and wheat. Likeable interpretation of the style. 28.VI.14

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle (500 ml). BB 27-062014, so 1 day after the BB date, Slightly hazy yellow/golden with a small quickly disappearing white head and little to no lacing. Aroma is slightly citrusy with grains, light sweetness and pils malt. Taste is slightly sweet with citrusy/fruity notes, cereals, decent malt backbone and herbal character. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Moderate lasting fnish. Not bad. Easily drinkable and quenching while not bland either. Some more freshness would certainly help, but this was already quite old when it arrived in Québec.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours very clear straw yellow with low-medium white head. Some lacing. Aroma is of grain, sugar, alcohol. Taste is of grain, sugar, nuts, very slight bitterness. Palate: Light body. Medium-high carbonation. Overall: Ok. Unpleasant aftertaste. Near-harsh finish. Good, but nothing outstanding.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Crowbar. A clear, golden beer topped by a small, white head leaving some curtains. Pale malts, some grains and a generic fruityness in the aroma. Nice, but neither complex nor exciting. The flavor has some sweetish fruits in addition to what’s found in the aroma, and a gentle bitterness to smoothen things a bit. It’s dry and nicely carbonated, medium body. Lasting finish with malty sweetness, bitterness and fruityness. A refreshing and tasteful one, but a tad boring for my likings. 140503

180614. Bottle at home (ABM). Pours clear light golden with a disappearing head. Aroma grass, hay, bread. As expected, I wouldn’t distinguish this from a lager. OK.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Draught @ Black Door
Aroma is sweet with malt, honey and grain. Also some metallic tones. Flavour has butter, honey, grainy malt and hints of cardboard. A kölsch on the buttery side. Not my kind of kölsch; instead of freshness this has heavy maltiness and butter.

Bottle, a month past its best before date. Pours a clear straw yellow with decent foamy white head. Aroma is bready, cereal and honey malts. Taste is crisp cereal with moderate honey sweetness. Very decent Kölsch, easy drinking and freshness wasn’t an issue. I’m looking forward to my Köln trip!

Tap@ahven. Pale golden, clear. Pale pilsner malty, subtly fruity, quite clean aroma. Somewhat dry, pale malty, suitably bitter. Light, fresh. Haven’t had a kölsch for a while, but this feels a tad more grainy, pale-ale- malty, than what I remember. But I like the subtle yeasty fruityness on the, otherwise, lagery flavours. Could even be more bland. And I really appreciate that there’s no hoppyness wrecking it all.
