50cl bottle. Pours golden with a slight haze, no bubbles and a nicely proportioned head. The nose has hay, then cereal (possible shredded wheat or cornflakes) and lemon. The taste has more lemon and cornflakes but also some honey kicks in as it warms up. The palate has an intense but tight body with a persistent length and a long clean finish. Overall, a really well made Kolsch.

50cl bottle from Marks & Spencer, Camberley. A pale straw colour with a loose white head; sweet grainy aroma; sweet grainy taste; and a clean grassy bitterness. True Kölsch style, immediately reminds me of the times I’ve worked in Köln.

Medium yellow with a frothy, lasting, off-white head. Smells of grain, toasted malt, fruit, hops, flowers and grass. Sweet malty fruity taste to start and then movies to a bitter hoppy grassy finish.

500ml bottle hauled by D&M from Sheffield to the P-Worm, danke! For a bottled foreign specimen, Thornbridge mimics the crisp herbal freshness of a Päffgen on tap in Köln rather well, while most bottled Kölsch tend to be dull caramalty shadows of their fresh-barreled prime form. Adds some UK ale fruitiness to the thin sweet cracker malt base, while candied lemon, herbal and floral hop flavours abound. One of the better foreign covers of this delicate, underappreciated style.

0,5 l bottle Appearance: Clear pale straw with very small white head. Aroma: Sweet, malts, breads, light citrus hops. Taste: Light seet ,thinnish, Sweet matls, breads, light citrus hops, some nuts and honey.. Light bitter finish. Medium bodied, firm sparkling carbonation but it works refreshingly so not overcarbonated. A better one it it’s style. and that it not comming out of Cologne. :-)
