Lacks the real hop freshness and finish of the great IPAs , it’s a decent pint, but not world class .

50cl bottle (as Bear State). 6 weeks old. Light clear gold pour, nice lasting white head. Great citrus and mango nose, some sugary pineapple and grain. Big juicy citrus, pineapple sweets and drier grapefruit pith in the taste, super clean, bit of biscuit and grain. Dry finish, good medium/full body, brilliant IPA.

stravale (2490) - Near Carrick-on-Shannon, IRELAND - JUN 23, 2015
Bottle from a shop in Castleton, Derbyshire [200615]
Labelled as Bear State
Golden amber, clear, frothy white head, some lacing
Aroma of piney hops, sweet resinous hops, some tropical notes, sweet pale malts underneath, some mango, very fruity, no booze
Taste of sweet fruity malts, mango, sticky hop resins, piney, tropical fruits, citrus zest, loads of hops
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, oily, good bittersweet balance, abv well hidden. Finish - lots of bitter bitter zest, bitter grapefruit hops backed up by sweet resinous malts
Overall - Very good. I’d like to try this alongside Halcyon - I think this might be better

Tap (Schrammi Keller, Tartu)
Lovely fruity hop aroma, but plenty of sweet caramelly malts too. Portends some stickiness or stodginess. Initial taste did show some signs of that, a bit of starchiness in the malts, but otherwise malty grainy, a little nutty, quite bitter. Some white peppery bitterness in the finish. Stays on the tongue for a while, but opens up to full leafy hop flowers. Reminds me of the midget hops we used to brew with. Covers the 7% well. Nice reclaim of the IPA style back onto English soil - I could run with this version.

Mortlach (1284) - Rome, ITALY - JUN 21, 2015
On tap @Buskers Pub (Rome). Pours hazy golden with a medium and persistent white foam. Aroma is hoppy, grapefruit, citrus, pine, malt, bubblegum, so so. Flavour has a medium malt profile, light sweet, bubblegum again, medium bitter in the end. Medium body, light carbonation. Not a great west coast IPA... not at all.
