Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Black at first appearance but is actually a very dark burnt red. Blindfolded you would not guess it was so dark. Very nice medium bitter taste with a nice ballance on the palate. Long medium bitter finish. I will have another...

Clear dark black brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, heavy hoppy, citrus, grapefruit. Flavor is heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, fresh hops. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

@basunen: ingen särskild doft. Smaken är bränd men med en liten speciell smak av jordig humle. Blir inte imponerad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Mycket trevlig humledoft. Även smaken är fylld av humle och trevlig fruktighet. Eftersmaken är fyllig. Rett stabil. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Clear dark brown with red tints and a big spongy beige head leaving some stains on the glass. Aroma is chocolate, caramel, oranges and some pine with a salty twist. Caramel sweetness quickly turns into a chalky bitterness with grapefruit, orange peel and pine needles. Dusty bitter chocolate and some licorice in the aftertaste, but it never goes to "dark" or malty thick. Medium bodied with quite lively carbonation. A very good example of the style that doesn’t get too roasty. It also manage too keep it’s british touch and still feel modern. Good!

An interesting expression of the black IPA, with almost no traces of roasted malts in aroma or taste. Well balanced and careful hopping results in a very fine brew indeed.

Aroma: Smelling of dark bread, grape-fruit, apples and grass.
Appearance: A dark brown colored beer. A high tan head with good lacing and good curtains.
Taste: Tasting dark roasted bread, grape-fruit, some cold coffee and citric peel.
Palate: Medium carbonation, a coarse texture. A medium body with a somewhat dry finish.
Overall: A rather modest black IPA, but that was actually nice.
Note: Bottle 500 ml. Reviewed 2013-04-12.

Bottle from Asahiya. Superb hop aroma: piney and stinky. Dark translucent brown. Nice mixed flavors: citrus, dark malt, tropical fruit. Goes into maltiness and some yogurt. Medium body. Great stuff! Could drink this often.
