Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Ravenous is a good word, get it in your magpie book. This has got better the further down I’ve got. I like getting down. Just don’t wear jeans. Malty. Dark. Incendiary.

Raven Black IPA is probably the best IPA that i’ve drank. Malt and hops are in perfect balance in this beer. Taste starts with aseet aroma of dark brown malt and continues to bitter and dry finish. I could drink this all night!

(bottle from Mr Lawrence, SE London) Pours dark brown to black with an off-white head and persistent lacing. Aroma/taste is complex fruity and hoppy with grapefruit prominence and pleasing malt character. Lovely bitter finish. Great stuff.

Bottle. Dark brown (mahogany) body with a reddish hue. Medium head. Licorice and piney hops in the aroma. Hoppy taste accompanied by some roast sharpness. Mouthfeel could be a bit richer. Semi-watery finish. A good drinking beer but not terribly exciting.

The nose grabs you ’round the back of the neck, stares into your eyes, and snarls "You’re gonna love me." Notes of toasted dark malt with hints of hoppy complexity in balance. Pours a deep brown with little head. You sip it and then, yup - there you go. The reason this is such a fashionable style at the moment. Everything that is warm and rich about a fine porter married with everything that is crisp and juicy in a fine IPA in a wedding that is fiery, tumultious, but ultimately balanced and harmonious. The finish is ... well it aint divorce, that’s the point. Fabulous.

Very smooth and full bodied mouthfeel. Black in color, kahki head. Smell of centennial. Piney, resinous, slight c-hop characte, medium to low bitterness. Malt is noticable but not infringed on the hops. Pretty good.

Dark brown colour with a big bubbly tan head. Fruity and dark malty aroma. Medium pluss body with a moderate balanced sweetness. Fine bitterness and a soft carbonation. Rich fruity and dark malt flavour. Lovely beer.
