COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask and bottles; semi-regular.
Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Bottle. Almost black with a large, creamy head. Aroma of hops, grass, some chocolate and light notes of strawberry jam. The taste was soft and relaxed. A very drinkable Black Ipa this one. Not as bitter as many others in the style.

Doftar tallbarr, blommor, te och tropisk citrus. Fin kropp och balans..anar lakrits på slutet. Denna brygd passade mig jäkligt bra! Skitbra black ipa.

Bottled. Dark brown, rich head. Pleasant hoppy black currant aroma. Mid sweet with medium to full body and soft mouthfeel. Lightly roasty with lots of black currant, salty bitter finish. A highly aromatic beer with good drinkability. Lovely!

500 ml bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours very dark reddish brown with a frothy brownish gray head that slowly dissipates while leaving some lacing on the glass. Smell is slightly sweet and slightly bitter with dark bread, liquorice, coffee, pine, overripe tropical fruits like pineapple and passionfruit and hints of roasted malts, esters and a rather strange sulphury smell. Taste is very bitter and tiny sweet with coffee, pine, freshly cut grass, overripe pineapple, mango, passionfruit, roasted malts, liquorice, vanilla, orange zest, mandarin oranges, gooseberries, wet earth, dill and very very subtle hints of rotten eggs. Mouthfeel is rough, dry and medium bodied. Finish is very bitter with roasted malts, wet earth, coffee and salty liquorice. Have heard many good things about this beer before tasting it but I’m sad to say it wasn’t for me. Strange smell/taste of very overripe fruits and rotten eggs (sulphur) doesn’t do it for me...
