COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask and bottles; semi-regular.
Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Cask-conditioned at the Cask Pub And Kitchen, London 11/1/2011. Near black with a slight tan head. Aroma of tropical and grassy hops with some chocolate malts. Plenty of grapefruit and pineapple fruit flavours, which clashed to some extent with the accompanying chocolate and roasty notes. Still very enjoyable though.

Draft at the Euston Tap. Pours a very dark brown with a stern, frothy beige head. Brilliant aroma of intense pine with some light caramel lurking about. Flavor is equally if not more divine. Quite sweet with honey, citrusy orange and pineapple, some resinous hops, then wonderful, understated roasdted malts. Medium bodied with average, smooth carbonation. Finishes sweet and lightly sugary, with some sticky hops and mild roast. Just incredible all around.

Cask, handpump at The Cask and Kitchen, Pimlico, London, 29.12.10 I was shocked that I hadn’t yet rated this as I’ve had it a couple of times before now. However onto the rating this pours dark brown with some garnet glints shining through with light beige head. Some hops and bitter chocolate shine from the nose. The taste is hoppy but with bitter chocolate intermingled in. It’s fruity, malty and just so full flavoured, I’m loving this. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 3.9

[3239-20100802] Cask. Sweaty citrus peel aroma lingers in your nose. Clear, dark black red body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. Bitter hints of toasted orange peel and lingering zest in the flavour. Medium body. Great style, good beer.

Cask handpull, The Sheffield Tap, platform 1, en route to Guiseley. Urinal and strawberry aroma; grapefruit and butter as the head subsides. Intense, blackened bitterness bullying the hops into submission. Fine yellow beige collar, tar looks. Burnt butterscotch, toast and grapefruit. Mixed bag- not enough hop juiciness for an IPA, even a black one.
