4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Black, mahogny, clear. Nose has a really nice fruity hoppy character. Like hop glands dumped into a glass, citrusy, some pine. Riwaka-like. Underneat lies a good bead of roasted malts, some choco. Body is medium. Good citrus, floral tones. Explosive flavours. This might well be my fav black ipa. So much of the fruity hoppiness. A bit short on the black, roasty tones though. A really hoppy-flavour black ipa. Not too bitter though. Iím guessing loads of hop extract.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Strong hop aroma. Light black colour fluffy white head. Light body and light balance between hops and malts. Feels a lot lighter than 6,6%.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Bottle, 0.5 l, at Pikkulintu, 20120927) The beer poured deep dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had pine, fruitiness and liquorice. Flavours were pine, fruitiness, liquorice, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy, fruity, mildly roasty and bitter. A nice balanced and tasty beer some people call as black IPA.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Thornbridge pub. Very hoppy indeed with a nice dark malt flavour. This may sound geeky but there is a lot of sorachi ace flavour in there.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml bottle. Firstly Iíd like to say, having had this on cask any times, I really do think the bottle should have itís own section, as it really is a different beast when compared to the slick, oily, choco dominant Cask version, and secondly, reading this page it seems like BeerSkull is the only one drinking the same beer as I am right now, as all the other reviews seem quite off, maybe all down to freshness, I do not know... but hey-ho, on to the beer: Wow, havenít rated a Thornbridge beer for a while, and certainly not as highly as this for quite some time, but my hat has come fully off for this one. Props to the íBridge! Pours a deep black brown with a garnet hue. Nie puffy off white head with good retention, slowly fades to a 1-2cm head with good sticky lacing. Aroma: well you can;t escape the Sorachi Ace in this one, itís such a dominant hop, and one Iím not that enamoured of, to be honest, but here it works well carried along by gooseberry led Nelson Sauvin and clean citrusy Centennial. Thereís a nice whiff of resin too, as well as Sorachi waxiness, orange blossom, jasmin tea, and citrus rind. Hops are to the fore on the aroma, hint of roast in the background which mingles well. Flavour opens up with alot of the aromas bursting onto the palate, but followed by a nice bit of roasted malt, earthy bitterness, hint of choco and bitter filter coffee. Finishes up with a nice grapefruit rind bitterness, lime zest. Has all the drinkability of an IPA with the smoothness of a US porter or light stout, this is what Iíd call a well executed, nicely balanced Black IPA. Decent!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
500ml bottle - a beautiful black pour with a lacy white head, as nice as youíll ever see from a bottle. The nose is fruit, malt, and more sour fruits. A bitter first bite, typical IPA, then malt and a bit of caramel. Nice oily feel, yet refreshing, great overall. A favourite.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
50 cl bottle @ home, BBE 01.05.2012
Aroma is rather weird with ash, leathery notes and gooseberry bush. Flavour is messy with ash, some licorice, resin and hints of coffee. Definitely past its prime.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 6, 2012 500ml bottle from Bieresgourmet.be
BBE 01.05.12 - Pours pitch black with a large bubbly head. Aroma of slightly roasty malts, bubblegum, some fruits and dry leather. Slightly roasty, bubblegummy taste with hints of dry fruits, grassy hops and leather. Finish is roasty and hoppy with fruity notes. Decent, perhaps would be a bit better from a fresh bottle. 6-3-7-3-12
Bottle @ SBWF. Much better from a fresh bottle, but still hints of grain and leather
