[RBESG, Sheffield]
Cask @ University Arms, Sheffield.
Pours hazy yellow with a slight green hue. Looks a tad like a cider, actually. Nice, staying, creamy white head with super lacings. Aroma has fresh cut grass, light sweet bready malts. Some pine as well. Prickly carbonation, fine and light mouthfeel. Flavour is a bit doughy with piney and grassy hops bitterness. Underlying maltiness is perhaps a tad weak, but the bitterness is nice. Good session beer.

RBESG Sheffield, day 2, University Arms. Cask. My notes say Swarn, but since it was the end of a long day, I’ll take my chances it was this beer. Clear pale golden, white head. Aroma of grass, some sulfur, light hoppy, some pale malts. Flavour is citrus, pale malts, fresh lime, dry bitter hoppy finish. Watery but refreshing.

Cask at The University Arms, Sheffield, ’The Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire’ on the Valley of Beer Day 16-08-08 A forgotten rating discovered when trawling through an old notebook. Pours light golden with a white head, aroma a little flowery, some hops. Taste quite hoppy and with a tangy bitterness but touch thin, crisp and refreshing and whilst a decent enough beer for the abv, it never really pulled me in enough. Dad and Loz enjoyed this beer more than I did. A6 A4 F6 P3 OV12 3.0

[Cask at Hobgoblin, Reading] Pours a rather insipid pale gold with a negligible white head. No carbonation - in fact completely flat. Aroma distressingly of pub toilets. Tastewise, bitter citrus is pleasant at first, followed by straw - in fact, a whole farmyard (hints of the Wadworth brewery flavour here). Some floral hops too. FInishes with a dirty bitterness. It’s certainly chock-full of flavour for a 3.5% bitter, but unfortunately I didn’t think it was a particularly pleasant flavour, and the whole urine stale urine smell kept haunting me a little. c3

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2008 Cask, Hinckley 08. Lime pickle, citrus, elderflower and light egg aroma. Floral hops to the fore with lemon, lime and Jelly Tot tang. Faintly curryish spice- cumin? Sulphur, faint almond, lovely tangy bittering hops, not a sniff of malt. Why should there be? Neat hop quality, pushing Abbeydale Absolution as Beer Of The Festival.

(Cask at The Rake, Borough, London, 8 Aug 2008) Pale yellow colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus and grass. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of citrus (lemon, grapefruit) and a hoppy, citrussy, almost resiny finish. Loads of taste for a 3,5%. Excellent session beer.
