Had some of my wife’s pour at Scotty’s Brewhouse. Pours a surprisingly deep brown color with a finger of beige head. Notes of chocolate and toasted malts, nuts, caramel, and a bit of earthy, hoppy character. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and an earthy, toasty mouthfeel. Solid brown ale.

Flight draft on tap at the brewpub (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a richer brownish deep hue, healthy haze, some orange copper bottom and edges show some nice glow. A frothy light brown head sits atop, laces ok overall as it dies to a decent film, thicker ring. Aromas are brown malts, earthy and mellow darker sweetness. Touches of brown sugar, earth, carmelized malts, toffee, toast. Some gentle toasty and roast elements, a touch of earthy mellow hops, chestnuts. Initial is medium bodied offering cocoa and darker brown malts. Mellow sweetness, toast and carmelization, some toffee and cocoa. Some caramel, biscuits come on firmly. Pretzels, wheat bread, and toast. Touches of nuttiness, soil, a kiss of tobacco and firm toasty qualities. Earthy hops. Middle is mellow sweetness, takes over a touch with some mellow hops, carmelized malts, toffee, and a kiss of cocoa. Finish is a touch dry and a gentle spice, dry florals and earthy hops, kiss of dry cocoa. Pretty solid Brown here. Not complex, but competes with any brewpub Brown some toast, gentle spice, dryness. Solid.

Growler:
Pours a tea-brown and clear, no head, just tan ring.
Scent is slight dark fruit, wood....more nut as it warms.
Slightly tart beginning, eases into a smooth finish.
Slight bit of barely bitter chocolate.
Not bad for a growler a few days old......
