3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Straw-coloured beer, initial taste is hops but not massive. Kinda fruity (Im not experienced enough at this to know quite which fruits though!),, kinda sweet, no tartness usually associated with the hoppy beers. Not much taste on the nose - perhaps I needed to let it warm up a bit more after taking it out of the fridge? Well balanced, fun summer ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Clear gold with a large white head. Soft aroma of citrus and various fruits - lychees, gooseberries, passionfruit. Sweetish with a refreshing bitter citrus tang along with tropical notes. Nicely-judged Kiwi hops.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours clear and golden (tick in the box, it does what it says on the label) with a good enduring head with biggish bubbles in it. The bouquet is fresh and fragrant. Among the grapiness and lemon grass was a toffeish note that intrigues. Also there’s banana passionfruit scents that reminds me of long summers in Nelson as well as hot buttered toast. I’d be quite happy if this is the last thing I ever smell.
The taste is fresh and bitter at once. There’s a hoppy tang that I enjoy as well as a generous carbonation. This is an ideal summer ale and one I’ll be recommending in spadefuls.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottled. A golden beer with a lazing off-white head. The aroma has notes of eggs, straw, malt, and hay. The flavor is sweet with notes fo malt, eggs, straw, and hay, leading to a lightly bitter finish.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasting at Regional Wines & Spirits. A light golden colour, small short-lasting head. That distinctively New Zealand tropical fruit salad hop aroma with the Nelson Sauvin ’gooseberry’ smell. Nicely malty with a balanced bitterness, medium mouthfeel and those fruity NZ hops. Very drinkable, thirst quenching golden lager replacement.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle
Aroma: predominantly, doughy yeast. There is a very interesting underlying flower or grassy hop, possibly berries. Might be the sauvin hops which has been described as gooseberries.
Appearance: hazy brown gold, thick off-white head with good lacing. Short lived effervescence.
Taste: no hint of any sweetness, medium to heavy bitterness with no indication of any sourness.
Palate: medium to full body, creamy and somewhat sticky texture average carbonation, nice clean bitter finish that fades to a mellow yeasty aftertaste.
Overall: Lovely drop. Changes as you drink, mellowing as it oxidises and gets yeastier

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 17, 2010 500ml bottle, batch 1151, tulip glass. Hazy golden hue, small particles. Very impressive huge white frothy head (like in the Duvel photo), slowly diminishing, crazy amount of lacing. A mixture of exciting hop aromas dominate especially citrus & tropical fruit - passion fruit. Fruity with a bit of spice. Taste is initially moderately to heavy biscuit malt sweet finishing sweet then lightly bitter lingering, a touch of good lemony sourness. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation.
I enjoyed this beer - the best I have ever had that comes in a green bottle. Another Christmas present from Mark - thanks Mark.
