jimthechap (122), Christchurch, New Zealand Jul 7, 2008 I have always had a deep seated suspicion of oysters. Therefore when one of my customers ordered a bottle and offered me a chance to have a sip, I thought I was going to be struck down with some sort of nasty intestinal affliction.
What happened was a lovely briny enveloping stout that charmed its way into my affections. Since tasting I have stocked and recommended to many punters. I am led to believe that there are Oyster Stouts that are fined with oysetr shells, ones that are designed to be consumed with oysters and ones that are brewed with oysetrs in them (like this one). If you are new to the style, and if this is anything to go by, graps it with both hands and indulge.
If seven maids, with seven mops swept for half a year they’d never pass up a chance for another 3 Boy’s Oyster Stout.
kempicus (218), Wellington, New Zealand Dec 2, 2008 Tried on handpull at the malthouse...really enjoyed this beer i found it exceptionally rich and full with a massive mouthfeel, slight leather on the palate but with good roasty malt flavours Papsoe (11062), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 25, 2008 (Bottle 50 cl) Pours a dark brown – almost opaque – with a tint of red and a dense, light brown head. Distinct burned malt aroma with a whiff of port. Medium body with solid burned malt accents, a little vanilla and perhaps a wee saline touch. Dry malt bitter finish. Excellent. 130608
Alasdair (22), New Zealand Oct 24, 2008 Little aroma. Black with a short-lived tan head. Rich, smooth mouthfeel. Chocolate- dominated flavur quite sweet with a touch of bitterness at the end and a background saltiness. Lacking complexity, maybe a bit too sweet, and needs more roast. donfardz64 (134), Wellington, New Zealand Oct 24, 2008 Pours pitch black, with black fully dissipating head. Very strong milk chocolate nose, some alcohol in the background. Very strong flavoured with chocolate/burnt malt dominating. Kind of salty and sweet, can taste the alcohol but relatively easy to drink. KimJohansen (4299), Copenhagen V, Denmark Sep 7, 2008 Black with light brown head. Sweet aroma with notes of hard roasted malt, caramel, coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Sweet flavor with fairly hard roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Ends bitter.
