COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Such was the popularity of porter in old England that legend has it townsfolk drowned when vats at a local brewery burst, flooding the streets. The Three Boys recreate this legendary beer, balancing toasted malts to give a rich, complex flavour. Fuggles hops maintain tradition while select New Zealand hops add spiciness that carries this beer into the new world.

can. Black and poured with a big head that took some time to dissipate. Quite creamy with a medium body. Nothing exceptional but still a very easy to drink example of this style.

Can from Glug, Newcastle. Very dark brown-black in colour with a large foamy white head. It has a chocolate and roasted coffee flavour followed by tart red fruit and a very dry burnt coffee finish.

Coca-cola oscura. Ciertamente compleja e interesante.

Sample at Great Grog’s bottled beer festival. Aroma is roasted malts, sweet chocolate. There is not much taste, and some strange roasted and malty notes.

330ml Can from Good Spirits Co, Glasgow (£2.80):
Not a bad English style porter with a nice roasted malts taste that went down pretty smoothly and was kept interesting by the addition of some good, earthy hops but on the downside the beer did seem a little light bodied in places. Overall this one was an enjoyable effort from Three Boys but in truth I’m not sure it’s one I’d be all that likely to pick up again soon.
