3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Demise (57) - Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - FEB 5, 2009
Pours dark brown with thin tan head. Dark chocolate and roasted malt aromas, with a hint of yeast. The flavours are smooth and rich. Roasted malt dominate the mouthful, with bitter coffee flavours also strong. Dark chocolate and biscuit come through to sweeten each mouthful ever so slightly, but it is the bitter and burnt malt flavours which linger on the palate.

Papsoes mystery blindtasting beer #4. Pours dark brown to black with a diminished light brown head. Roasted coffee and chocolate malt. Flavour is dry and roasted, medium coffee note and a ligt smoothness from the chocolate into the finish. Yet a bit too simple and without much body. Slight ashtray finish with a mild bitterness mainly from the roasted malt.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2007 A milky coffee, tan head on a pitch black beer - a fantastic beer to drink with your eyes!
Aroma: winey plum character, tobacco that reminds me of Port Royal, sultana character, the bittersweet chocolate character of over-doing the chocolate malt!
Flavour: Strong milky coffee, vanilla tones coming through, almost oaky feel to this beer, a good pronounced bitterness which I enjoy, a late astringency is there from the black malt.
Overall an interesting beer but some falvours just seem a little over-done (e.g. the Chocolate malt on the nose)

Roast malt and hops on the aroma. Some burnt toast. Watery texture, strong burnt malt bringing chocolate & malty sweetness. Hops are quite present also. I do love a burnt yet hoppy beer, yet this one stays in the comfort zone. Finish is ling and chocolaty.
Very nice, but no PKB.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with ligth notes of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet malty withlight notes of roasted malt, leading to a dry bitter, roasted finish, where a light note of coffee also lingers around. Thanks Papsoe for shipping this home to Denmark.

This is from the pack that beerledgend lobbed my way last time I was in Kiwiland. It poured well and looks like a solid porter with deep ruby notes and creamy head. The nose is quite chocolatey with sticky molasses. The flavour complements this well and I beleive it to have a good depth of flavour and enjoyable softness on the palate. I actually thought this had a very good body and am more than happy to try another if it were available. Well done threefellas.

Poured a large tan head that didn’t really want to hang around on a dark brown body. Dark chocolate on the nose, same in the taste along with some hints of smoke.
