What’s a craft brewery to do when all the “typical” IPA hops are gone? Innovate of course, just like craft breweries always have. Hoptimization uses big, bold, bitter hops to get a clean citrusy flavor you’ll love and the bitter bite that you crave. Step away from typical and try something new.

Just awesome, and totally unexpected from this new Virginia brewer. I expected east coast hoppy beer (earthy and more brittish in style) but found it pleasantly californian (citrus, bright, floral). I’d drink this all the time if I lived in Harrisonburg.

Draft. Copper with a white head. Very heavy on sweet malt and honey with some hop bite. Ok.

Pours a very clear amber and flat looking. Aroma was sweet, couldn’t really pick one thing out. Taste was where I could pick a few things out. Honey was up front for me along with some caramel. I got no hop flavor, but it had a nice bitter bite.

Too sweet. The hop flavor is overpowered. It's only 7.1%. It is as sweet as an Imperial. I need a solid hop flavor and some bitterness in an IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draught from pork barrel. Pored a kind of flattish amber some hoppy citrus and malts. OK.

amber color; caramel, sweet aroma with floral hop notes; lots of caramel malt flavor; semi-sweet malt base with floral hop note, but not nearly as bitter as I would expect from an IPA

From the bottle poured a brownish brew with a white head. Aromas and flavors of malt and hops and some funny unidentifiable flavors.

Copper color and a piney grassy aroma. Bright white head that dissipates rather quickly. Piney bitter flavor from the hops is there with a bit of lemon flavor in the finish.

Draft at the source. Crystal clear golden color, bright white head. Aroma of grass and light pine. Taste is bitter pine, subtle lemon.

Bottle... Pours clear and dark amber with a small, wispy, white head. Aromatic standouts are marmalade and fruitcake. Medium-bodied with expired carbonation. The flavor is a well-balanced marriage of caramel-like malts and tannic grapefruit bitterness. Finishes raspy and dry. Bottle courtesy of one very generous ygtbsm94!

Big malt flavors of toffee and bread with a lingering, honey-like sweetness. Too malt forward for the style. Hops were nice, however, adding some earthy, floral and grassy elements. Bitterness was on the mild side.
