on tap at the brewery
Golden raisin color with brilliant clarity and little indication of carb. Nose is subtle with just a little grain and hints of grapefruit. Flavor is robust with bitterness balanced well with crystal malts and plenty of grapefruit and orange peel in the hop character. There is a touch of spice on the malt as well. Medium on full bodied with moderate carb and a dry finish. I can dig it.

On tap at Lardo. Colour...hazy golden amber with a moderately thick white head. Nose...lightly spicy and hoppy with floral notes. Palate...a burst of grain up front to go with the foamy froth, then comes the rye spice followed by a wave of citrusy hops that longer nicely on the finish.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap at Three Creeks. Pours a low haze golden. Webby lacing. Nose is fresh citrus hops, fresh pale grist. Taste is husky, raw malt, big soap and huge harsh husky grain. Big IBUs donít have the malt balance to match. Still, probably the best beer on tap :/

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cloudy apricot color, almost like a hefeweizen. Aroma is citrus and a touch of yeast. Medium body with a slight slick feel to it. Citrusy bitter flavor, lasting into the aftertaste. Rye? Ok.

Bottle, brought back and shared by Grippitis. Hazy light amber, towering off white head. Heaps of rye character here, a nice compliment to the powerful citrus hops. Very tasty.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught at the brewery in Sisters, OR. Piney hop nose with some spiciness. Dark copper color. Good rounder flavors to start. Nice balance between sweet malt and rather rough bitterness. Medium body, a bit sticky. Good, substantial stuff. The high IBU and the rye complement each other well.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy orange tinted copper coloured body with a dense, four centimetre tall tan head - very nice and tons of movement from the bottom. Aroma of fresh hops, grapefruit, alcohol, a decent amount of malt and the slightest hint of rye - this one isnít too noticeable in the nose. Medium-bodied; Noticeable rye grain in the flavour with a bit of an earthy bite and a little herbal and grapefruity bitterness from the hops coupled with a little alcohol kick. Aftertaste shows a good sweetish flavour from caramel and toffee coupled with a pungent alcohol and rye bite at the end - very nice balance, better than most rye ipas Iíve had. Overall, a nice beer and one that should be sampled, especially if you like rye-based IPAs. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Made in Oregon (Pioneer Square) in Portland, Oregon on 27-April-2013 for US$4.09 sampled at home in Washington on 28-May-2013.
