Appearance: slightly hazy amber. Nothing but a sliver of a ringlet though she does swirl with lace.
Nose: bourbon vanillin and goodness. Let me reiterate: bourbon, vanilla, cream, and bean. Dry in the back along with spice. Hint of caramel and apples; caramel nougats. Soft vanilla breadiness, much like angel food cake. Essence of mulled oats is a scattered whisper.
Palate: brisk, soft, and surprisingly bright atop the tongue before zapping the back of my tongue with flavor galore. Dryness of wood, spice, and a kiss of heat lingers in the finish. Apples, peaches sweet and macerated in spice, bourbon, and wood are there for my supping and tasting pleasure. Their skins provide pleasant bitterness underneath and in the back. A growing rough undercurrent of dry spices also underneath. Bourbon vanillin and wood abound. Yum! Vanilla caramel coats lips and tongue; smackerific.
Final Thoughts: a totally different brew from the original Oatgoop and just as good in her own way. I love bourbon so of course I love bourbon in my brew. Whether a lot, a little, or somewhere in between, Iíll take it all please and thank you.

Bottle from World Beer Cup. Pours is amber/copper color with no head. Aroma is all freaking vanilla, canít get much past that. Flavor is like early gray tea. This was just weird for me.

Draft on tap at the brewpub (Munster, IN). Pours a hazy copper, a touch lighter, a small offwhite ring of head laces a bit, clings to the corners. Aromas are a delectable mix of bourbon spirit, light vanilla and booziness, coupled with a nice malty caramel base, depleted florals, toffee, and biscuits, the sweetness is not over the top, melding into wet oak and bourbon nicely. Initial is sweeter, caramel, toffee, decent bourbon flavor without the shocking warmth of alcohol. Vanilla, wet oak, and bourbon flavors permeate with caramel, toffee, bread, biscuits fhasing behind. I can really taste the spirit, a light bitter hopping shows up faintly, as this beer has succumbed to the barrel. Better than the base, which I canít say about the BA Hvede.

Draft at Three Floyds. Pours a murky reddish brown with dissipating head. The nose is full of bourbon barrel notes. Very oaky and rich with distant cordial cherry notes. On taste, initially it is overwhelming with bourbony character, though not particularly hot. Vanilla and wood come through, as does a thick and chewy malt backbone. As it warms, becomes more drinkable and nuanced with dried tropical fruits, plums, etc. Actually, pretty interesting.

On draft at Three Floyds. Pours a cloudy orange brown with a fluffy white head. Aroma is oak with super rich malt and over ripe pitted fruits. Full bodied with a brown sugar sweetness. Oak comes through nicely. Overall this is a great beer. My only complaint is that the alcohol is a little out of balance.

Tap at Fff... Pours a medium caramel brown, semi-transparent, with a creamy frothy white head... Aroma of oak and assertive vanilla with soft bourbon notes. Faint light fruit intertwined... Coconut and vanilla forward with bourbon in the background. Smooth creamy mouthfeel but can get a little cloyingly sweet. Soft to lively carbonation.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2010 huge nose of wood and tobacco, lightly fruity: cherry, plum. cloudy amber with oxygenated head. bourbon/pseudo-cherry combo is delightful. soft bourbon nose almost becomes chocolate.

On tap 1/13/10. Noticed a separate listing for this. But "Scarf Patrol" would be accurate. A - Smells of boozy spirit. Fruity. Really depreciate the fact they serve their barrel beers so cold. But in any case, with the average ABV, they should be allowed some time to warm. Bah. Not awhole lot of depth here IMHO. A - Kind of tea like amber with thin white head. Hazy. But not opaque. F - Pretty phenomenal barrel aging for a beer that initially underwhelmed me for the bomber price, and as a Mikkeller collabo. Lots of wood here. Bourbon. Fruitiness. Bubblegum? Herbal/earthy or (not so) oaty character I canít quite put my finger on. Off. But not off putting. Hops still here. Enjoyable. P - Instantly intoxicating on an empty stomach. Within sips it warmed me up. Didnít need a scarf. Washed it down with a burger. Not the other way around. Little boozy. Agreeable though. Sipper. O - Big beer. Nice. Pleasing. Barleywine/ASA-ish. Although, like most everything 3Fs does, the barrel aging could be considered a little too over the top @ times. I know Oak Klaus was pretty hot and subdued the base. In the end, it was another surprising, fortunate treat with lunch today.

On tap at Three Floyds Brewpub. The dude next to me got a taster of it and couldnít handle it. I ordered it straight up and he was all "dude, really?". Poured amber with off white head. Aroma of bourbon and those signature FFF hops. Flavor is fruity bourbon, bourbony malt, malty fruit, and still strong, fresh hops. Alcohol in the finish. Awesome luck I got to try this.

650mL bottle from DK. Not bad, but much prefer the Hvedegoop! Pours amber with minimal head. Body a bit thin, but has nice caramel, toasted matls, woddy, anilla and citrus notes.
