UPDATED: JUN 1, 2013 Very drinkable barleywine, but not particularly interesting one. Not down the hoppy line like boogoop, but nice sweetness. Dry finish. Wouldn’t chase after.

[Tap @ Mikkeller] Mörkt brun. Fruktig och humlig aroma. Smaken likaså, medium carb, eftersmaken ej så lång.

Deep smell of hops, but also hints wheatbeer and caramelmalts. Red-ish amber whit huge white foamy head. Very sharp bitterness. Thin and refreshing mouthfeel. Nice look and smell, not as well tasting as I hoped after smelling.

Uhlen (251) - Trondheim, NORWAY - APR 18, 2013
Deep amber color with a nice foamy beige head. Aroma is spicy, soapy, sweet caramelmalts, citrus, hoppy. Taste is... weird. Heavy on the hops, with a long lasting taste of sweet bisquits. Dry towards the finish, alcohol is well hidden.

On tap. Pours amber with a medium beige head...aroma is fruity malt, brown sugar, rough grain and floral hops still after all this time in the bottle...flavour is pine, hop flowers, rough grain, dk fruit and caramel...alcohol is terrifically integrated now, no burn, but a solid warming quality that keeps it from getting too sticky...sweetness... I probably shouldn’t have had two of these after an assortment of other beers...I’m feeling like I could go for a nap under a bridge

Bottle. Hazy deep amber liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, citrus, pine, port wine, mango, tangerine and bread. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter with notes of toffee, pine, mango, citrus, bread and light booze. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nicely malty and quite balanced.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. Hazy copper coloured with spicy orange marmalade, red fruit, earthy hops and creamy caramel on the warming finish.

Red color, hazy. Dense, beige head that leaves good lacing. Aroma’s: caramel(/malt), firm hoppiness, somewhat citrus, herbal. Flavor is bitter & medium sweet. Pretty full bodied. Alcohol warms the throat. Finishes dry with a firm bitterness.

This was a delicious barley wine. I poured into a tulip glass - clear, deep copper, amber color with a tan head. Aroma was very nice - lots of toffee, and carmel (brought me right back to eating cow’s tails candies as a kid), but also a sort of warm saffron. The taste was dryer than I had been lead to believe by the nose. The medium bitterness really balanced the sweetness. Very drinkable. Palate had nice weight and a lingering finish. Overall, great beer.
